(Near Eastern Studies) course is the same as that of thefirst year of the structured/taught master's degree [see M.A. (Near EasternStudies) immediately below]. The Honours degree is awarded to studentswho register for and complete the Honours degree, and – as an "exit"degree – to students who register for the Master's degree anddiscontinue studies after completing the first year.1. ADMISSION TO THE DEGREEThe Head of Department has the authority to approve and acceptcandidates who may otherwise not strictly fulfil the general requirementsof the University for admission.2. CURRICULUM AND EXAMINATIONIn consultation with the Head of Department, students choose(1) a minimum of two modules from a table of four thematic NearEastern Studies modules below (32 credits each);(2) two further modules (32 credits each), which may be further modulesfrom the table of thematic Near Eastern Studies modules ormodules from a related discipline, subject to the approval of bothDepartments.Each module is examined in a three-hour written paper or in an oralexamination of at least an hour.40Postgraduate Calendar 2004 – Faculty of the Humanities
