Admission to the honours degree in History is subject to approvalby the head of department.2. Students must have completed a three-year bachelor's degree, orbe in possession of an equivalent qualification, in which case anadditional evaluation may be required before admission.CURRICULUMA taught course comprising four three-hour papers (32 credits each): GES601 Subject theory, research methodology and modernhistoriography (32 credits) GES602 South African history (32 credits) GES603 The history of Africa (32 credits) GES604 The history of the world (32 credits)(Total: 4 x 32 = 128)ORCandidates take a taught course comprising a compulsory paper(GES601), any two of the remaining three papers (GES602, GES603,GES604) and EITHER (i) a fourth paper of at least 32 credits from arelated discipline, OR (ii) write a minor research project of 50-60 pagestext (GES691), OR (iii) do a structured internship (GES605) at a suitableinstitution offering in-service training (such as the Department of LandAffairs, the National Museum, or the Free State Archives).
