<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> <strong>Hospitality</strong> <strong>Industry</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong>EligibilityThe <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> <strong>Hospitality</strong> <strong>Industry</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> is awarded on acompetitive basis. Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the award.• Be a national of one of the countries where <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> is represented.Anguilla The Cayman Islands St. LuciaAntigua & Barbuda Curacao St. MaartenThe BahamasDominicaSt. Vincent & theGrenadinesBarbados Grenada Trinidad & TobagoBelize Jamaica Turks & Caicos IslandsBritish Virgin IslandsSt. Kitts & Nevis• Show proof of acceptance or enrolment in an undergraduate programme for theupcoming academic year at Johnson & Wales University <strong>Hospitality</strong> College.• Demonstrate proven financial need. (Copies of bank statement or family income levelproof accepted)• Be the first member of his/her immediate family to undertake undergraduate studies inhospitality.• Be committed to a career in the hospitality industry.• First-time-in-college applicants must have SAT scores of 1200 and above.• To be considered for <strong>Scholarship</strong> renewal, the scholar must maintain a grade pointaverage of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or be within the top 5 percentile of his/her class.• Must not be a member of the immediate family of a <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Bank</strong>employee.The Application ProcessTo apply for the <strong>Scholarship</strong>, applicants will be required to download the application form andsubmit it to:Ivette Martinez, Membership Services DirectorCaribbean Hotel Association1000 Ponce de Leon Ave.5th Floor, San Juan, Puerto Rico 00907In addition to the completed form, the following must be submitted.• A personal statement of no more than 200-300 words• Certified copy of SAT score report or high school transcript (for first-time-in-collegeapplicants), or an official undergraduate transcript• Notarized copy of birth certificate or other certified proof of nationality• <strong>Bank</strong> statement or proof of family income levelHow Awardees Will Be SelectedCHA will, based on application submissions, select a short list of candidates who meet the generaleligibility requirements, including completeness of <strong>Scholarship</strong> applications.Page 1 of 2


<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> <strong>Hospitality</strong> <strong>Industry</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong>CHA will then submit to <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> a shortlist of 17 candidates in order oftheir preference to facilitate the <strong>Bank</strong>'s selection of candidates.A panel will then make critical assessments of the candidates' applications to determine whichtwo awardees will be selected.Advertisement and Notification of <strong>Scholarship</strong> AwardThe availability of the scholarships will be suitably advertised by Johnson & Wales University, and<strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> and the Caribbean Hotel Association.When a candidate is selected for the <strong>Scholarship</strong> award, <strong>FirstCaribbean</strong> will coordinate anappropriate public relations programme to announce the winners of the <strong>Scholarship</strong>.In addition, the <strong>Bank</strong> may send notification to the Johnson & Wales University Office ofCommunications and the media in the scholars' home countries.Page 2 of 2
