AIR OPERATED DIAPHRAGM PUMPSOperating principleAn air driven diaphragm pump will start working with compressedair at 1-7 bar (5 bar for plastic pumps). The compressedair will flow through a valve mechanism to the leftor right air chamber. At the end of the stroke the air valve will switch over andthe whole process is reversed. If the liquid outlet of thepump is closed the pump will stop as the air and liquidpressures will be balanced. The diaphragm will have balancedair and liquid pressures on each side which gives along diaphragm life.50The two air chambers are separated from the liquid chambersby two flexible diaphragms connected to each otherby a centre rod. If the air valve is in a position to allow compressedair to flow into the right air chamber, the left air chamber will exhaust through amuffler. The air flow causes the centre rod tomove to the right so the liquid chamber becomessmaller and the liquid is pushed throughthe valve in the top manifold. The liquid pressurealso closes the valve to the right chamber. At the same time the left liquid chamber will getbigger and creates a vacuum so that the bottomvalve opens and liquid is pulled into theleft chamber. All designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

AIR OPERATED DIAPHRAGM PUMPSYour advantagesExtended performance diaphragmThe pressure differences on the membrane surface and thusthe applicable inner strain are very low in comparison to mechanicallydriven membrane pumps. The development of anew long-term membrane from a PTFE compound (PTFE foilwith EPDM carrier material) allowed 3 properties to be combinedat the same time:- Extremely long membrane service life- Diffusion density consistency- Better conductivity (to prevent static charging)Dry start and self primingCompletely self priming from a dry start, with suction liftsnot exceeding 5 meter on fresh water. The dry running capabilityenables safe installations to be made where the liquidsupply is likely to be made intermittent. If source runsdry, the pump continuous to operate without damage byoverheating or friction wear until further liquid is available.Simple and safe flow controlInfinitely variable flow control can be simply by openingor closing a valve on the discharge, or by increasing ordecreasing the air supply.Air driven intrinsically safe (ATEX)The power source of compressed air is most suitable foroperation in potentially explosive environments. The pneumaticdrive absolutely spark-free and in order to preventpossible static charging, conductive metal housings orPVDF ones enriched with graphite are available.Unrestricted use of fluidsPractically any fluid can be pumped, from clear water tolow-boiling-point media to highly viscous fluids and chemicallyaggressive media. The valves can handle polluted fluidsand solids without impairing vacuum capacity. The slowspeed of the current flow and the gentle-action pumpingmake it easy to also pump abrasive and erosive media.51All designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

AIR OPERATED DIAPHRAGM PUMPSSelecting the pumpThe following table provides you with general informationon selecting the right pump. To achieve maximum performance,we recommend selecting a pump which will onlybe using up to 75% of its maximum pumping capacity. Inaddition to the pumping capacity, the materials of the componentswhich will come in contact with the fluid and whichhave to be resistant to the liquid to be pumped must be determined. Please consult the table of resistances for this. The performance curves and the test data were determinedwith water at ambient temperature. Pumping capacity anddischarge head change when viscosity, specific weight orother liquid properties change.Selection diagramPump Discharge volume PageY01.NDP.5 52Y01.NDP.10 54Y01.NDP.15 56Y01.NDP.20 58Y01.NDP.25 60Y01.NDP.40 62Y01.NDP.50 64Y01.NDP.80 6610 20 50 100 150 250 500 800 l/minThe plastic materials are suitable for most liquids. AIR OPERATED DIAPHRAGM PUMPSType of installationThe pumps can also be used underground and, under certaincircumstances, submerged. In case of submersion, make sure that the air motor material is resistant to theliquid and that the air outlet is equipped with a snorkel. Thestandard model of the air motor is made of aluminium orpolypropylene, but the motor is also available as an optionin coated aluminium and other materials. With submergedinstallation, also make sure that the liquid input pressuredoes not exceed 0.5 bar for PTFE (Teflon ® ) membranesand 1 bar for other membranes.Self primingSubmerged pumpPressure boostingViscous productsPositive primed pump«Over the mountain»Maximum suction liftAccessories filter / regulatorY01.NDP.ModelMax. airconsumptionin Ndm 3 /minAir supplyin inchFilter /regulatorPageY01.NDP.5150 1/4 W1000-8G-F-W 52200 1/4 W1000-8G-F-WY01.NDP.10200 1/4 W1000-8G-F-W 54250 1/4 W1000-8G-F-WThe above table shows the suction lift height. „T“ standsfor Teflon ® (PTFE) membranes. „R“ stands for Rubber (allother membranes).
