And they said:Some say that Thou art John the Baptist; andothers, Elias ;and others, Jeremiah, or one of theProphets. Jesus saith to them : But whom do yesay that I am ? Peter, as usual, is the leader andSimon Peter answering, said : Thouspokesman.art Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesusanswering said to him Blessed art thou, Simon:Bar-Jona : because flesh and blood hath not revealedit to thee, but My Father who is in heaven. And Isay to thee that thou art :Peter, and upon this rockI will build My Church, and the gates of hell shallnot prevail againstit. And I will give to thee thekeys of the kingdom of heaven : and whatsoeverthou shalt bind on earth, shall be bound also inheaven ;and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth,shall be loosed also in heaven." l Here we findPeter confessing the divinity of Christ, and in reward for that confession he is honored with thePromise of the Primacy.Our Saviour, by the words "thou art Peter,"1Matt. xvi. 13-19.
