OIL SEPARATION• Wärtsilä iPhase ®The Wärtsilä iPhase ® profiler measures the oil-water interface,providing accurate measurements of water conductivity and therebythe oil in water profile inside hydrocarbon separators.Several independent sensors are located above each other in orderto measure a vertical profile of the separator contents. Each sensormeasures the bulk properties of the surrounding fluid. The measurementis conducted without electrodes and over a large volume which makes itless sensitive to deposits.The Wärtsilä iPhase ® electronic module is located on thetop of the separator vessel and is connected to the WärtsiläiPhase ® Measurement Rod, located inside the vessel.It performs all calculations onboard and can directly beaccessed by the plant control system via MODBUS RTU or4–20 mA signaling.Measurement principleThe Wärtsilä iPhase ® profiler measures the electricalconductivity of the water/oil mixture surrounding eachsensor. Dispersed oil droplets are non-conductivecompared to the surrounding water. The overall conductivitywill therefore decrease with increasing concentration ofoil. The Wärtsilä iPhase ® sensors utilize the conductivitydifference to provide the oil in water profile.The conductivity is measured by setting up an electricfield and measure the current flowing.
