Best possible operational economy is emphasizedregarding use of fuel, personnel and building costs.24

AUTOMATIONWIAS acts as main alarm system for the vessel, and it monitorsand controls other Wärtsilä products/systems as well as ship utilitysystems like ballast, bilge, cargo, fuel, cooling etc.The Ecometer function in WIAS estimates fuel consumption andassist the operator on how to operate the vessel the optimal way, tosave fuel. The Ecometer is developed for Diesel Electric propulsion, and based on Wärtsiläs expert knowledge on diesel electric propulsionsystems, and propeller and hull design. Using information from PMS,propeller curves and hull design as well as data from ECDIS it ispossible to plan the route based on upon minimum fuel consumption.Fuel consumption reports can be generated for the differentoperating profiles (like steaming, DP and harbor). Saving fuel reducesoperating costs and saves the environment.Wärtsilä Power Management SystemThe Power Management System controls power generation and powerdistribution onboard the ship, to secure enough available power forpropulsion and manoeuvring . A complete Wärtsilä solution, includingPMS, ensures an optimal tuned system that will reduce the risk of badperformance and blackouts.PMS from Wärtsilä contains all standard functions like loaddependant start/stop, load sharing, synchronising, load shedding etc.The system has several advanced options that will reduce distributionlosses, increase the energy availability and save space and installationcosts. For use in the offshore market, Wärtsilä PMS has passedstringent tests like Hardware-in-loop (HIL) tests from third partyverification companies.Wärtsilä PMS is fully integrated in WIAS.Wärtsilä automation systems are designed to provide a high level ofsafety, economy, reliability and availability through the whole life-cycleof a vessel. The design is based on use of Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS)components and a high level of standardization. This reduces buildingcosts, secures high availability of spare parts and keeps maintenancecosts down. As process stations, Programmable Logic Controllers(PLCs) are used, while Personal Computers (PCs) contain the graphicaluser interface and storage of historical alarm and trend data. The number of, and configuration/topology of the automationsystem varies from delivery to delivery, and depends on ship type andsize, as well as customer requirements25

ENGINES AND GENERATING SETSLow-speed dual-fuel enginesDriven by emission regulations and recent fuel price developments, the interest in gas as fuel for shipping is increasing. Wärtsilä is theleading provider of medium-speed gas and dual-fuel engines since2005. A major milestone was recently reached with 1000 engines sold, collectively logging more than 9 million running hours. Wärtsilä dualfueltechnology for 2-stroke engines is based on the pre-mixed leanburn combustion principle already proven for the Wärtsilä 4-strokedual-fuel engines. The merits of this technology are:• z no additional NO X reduction technologies are needed to fulfill theIMO Tier III requirements• z gas injection pressure < 16 bar• z simple, reliable and low cost gas supply system76

ENGINES AND GENERATING SETSTypical BSFC curves to illustrate Standard Tuning,Delta Tuning, Delta Bypass Tuning and Low-Load TuningThe BSFC guarantee is possible at several load points between50–100%.Standard Tuning, Delta Tuning, Delta Bypass Tuning and Low-LoadTuning are available for all Wärtsilä low-speed diesel engines to provideoptimum fuel consumption and flexibility for different engine loads. DeltaTuning focuses on reducing fuel consumption in the operating rangebelow 90% engine load. Delta Bypass Tuning provides increased steamproduction between 50 and 100% engine power. Low-Load Tuningreduces fuel consumption below 75% engine load.Dual tuning is available on request and in cooperation withClassification Societies.Cylinder lubricationThe Pulse Lubricating System is the standard for the 2-stroke engineportfolio. It electronically controls the injection timing and the loaddependent feed rate. The feed-rate set point can be adjusted between 0.6 g/kWh and1.2 g/kWh. The actual feed-rate is dependent on the residual BN takenfrom the drain oil samples coming from the piston underside. Thisincreases the safe operation of piston running performance againstthe negative influences from the Sulphur content in the fuel, ambientconditions, and other detrimental factors. The graph below illustrates the theoretical sulphur dependentfeed-rates based upon BN 100 cylinder lubrication oil. These threemeasured points represent various engine feed-rate settings, whichhave been adjusted according to the unique results from the pistonunderside drain oil analysis of each engine.84

LOW-SPEED ENGINESMore detailed information on cylinder lubrication is available atWinterthur Gas & Diesel, Switzerland.EmissionsTier II <strong>solutions</strong> for 2-stroke diesel engineAll Wärtsilä low-speed engines included in this booklet are fullycompliant with IMO Tier II NO X limits specified in Annex VI of theMARPOL 73/78.Tier III <strong>solutions</strong> for 2-stroke diesel engineLOW PRESSURE DF SOLUTIONIn order to achieve compliance with both the IMO Tier III NO Xstandards and the requirements for SO X control, a variety of <strong>solutions</strong>is theoretically conceivable, starting with the choice of fuel and fuelsystem, including conventional and more advanced tuning concepts, the addition of particular substances and, ultimately, the aftertreatment.Switching from liquid to gas fuel is a viable solution fordealing with both challenges simultaneously. See the Wärtsilä 2-strokedual fuel section in this booklet for more details. However, when considering liquid fuels only, various options needto be taken into account, combining the individual <strong>solutions</strong> to controlthe two key pollutants.Pollutants Measure 1 Measure 2SO X Low-Sulphur Fuel ScrubberNO X SCR Engine internal measures (EGR)85

ENGINES AND GENERATING SETSSCR SOLUTIONSSCR technology is based on the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NO X ) bymeans of a reductant (typically ammonia, generated from urea) at thesurface of a catalyst in a reactor. The temperature of the exhaust gas is thereby subject to constraintsboth on the upper and the lower side. The latter is particularly an issuewith fuels containing higher fractions of sulphur, such as those presentin typical heavy fuel oil (HFO) qualities available today, which calls foreven higher minimum temperatures in the catalyst.HIGH PRESSURE SCRThe SCR reactor is put on the high-pressure side, before the turbine.Integrating the SCR reactor before the turbine allows the reactor to bedesigned in the most compact way due to the higher density of theexhaust gas.Wärtsilä has developed and is systematically deploying highpressure SCR <strong>solutions</strong> for the complete 2-stroke engine portfolio withsingle and multi-turbocharger applications. Further, Wärtsilä allowsthird party brand high pressure SCR suppliers to interface to theengine provided interface specifications are met.ReactorMixing pipeBypassCollector pipeLOW PRESSURE SCRThe SCR reactor is put on the low-pressure side, after the turbine.Wärtsilä has developed a 2-stroke engine interface specificationsfor low pressure SCR applications that complies with the known lowpressure SCR system providers. Low pressure SCR is typically largerin volume and has the advantage of being less complicated to integrateinto the exhaust stream.86

LOW-SPEED ENGINESEGR SOLUTIONSAdditional to Tier III dual fuel and SCR <strong>solutions</strong>, exhaust gasrecirculating (EGR) concepts might be commercially viable for certainapplications. Wärtsilä 2-stroke is further developing this concept anddevelops own EGR re<strong>solutions</strong> available upon request.High-Efficiency Waste Heat Recovery (WHR)Waste heat recovery is an effective technology for simultaneouslycutting exhaust gas emissions and reducing fuel consumption. High-Efficiency Waste Heat Recovery plants can be installed with Wärtsiläengines. This enables up to 10% of the main engine shaft power tobe recovered as electrical power for use as additional ship propulsionpower and for shipboard services. These WHR plants thus cut exhaustgas emissions and deliver fuel savings of up to 10%.Steam based WHR has already been successfully fitted in severalinstallations to Wärtsilä low-speed marine engines. In the WHR plant,a turbo-generator combines input from a steam turbine and an exhaustgas power turbine to generate electrical power, while steam from theeconomiser is available for ship service heating. Steam based WHR isrecommended for vessels with high installed power.Exhaust gaseconomizerSteamturbineShip service steamShip service powerTurbochargersMotor/generatorExhaustturbineAux. enginesMain engineSchematic of a High-Efficiency Waste Heat Recovery plant typical for largecontainer ships.87

EXHAUST GAS CLEANINGEXHAUST GAS CLEANINGDue to existing regulations onemissions to air from the InternationalMaritime Organisation (IMO), and withthe European Union working towardsan alignment with IMO MARPOLAnnex VI, marine industry operatorsneed to decide on the best meansfor achieving compliance. Wärtsiläexhaust gas cleaning technology isan economical and environmentallyfriendly solution for tackling all newand existing rules and regulations. The systems are suitable for bothnew buildings and the retrofitting ofexisting vessels having either 2-strokeor 4-stroke engines, as well as for oilfiredboilers.Having the largest installed baseof any marine scrubber supplier and adedicated test laboratory has enabledWärtsilä to optimise their products tobe reliable, easy to operate, and easyto install.• Scrubber System DesignsWärtsilä has developed two kinds ofstandard scrubber designs to bettermeet the demands of our customers.Wärtsilä can offer the conventionalventuri scrubber design, as well as themore compact inline scrubber system. Both scrubber designs havebenefits and drawbacks dependenton vessel type and layout, so it’simportant to look at the specificproject needs. Both designs can beutilized for open loop, closed loop andhybrid scrubber systems.88

• Wärtsilä Hybrid Scrubber SystemWärtsilä provides hybrid scrubber system <strong>solutions</strong> which have theflexibility to operate in both open and closed loop using seawater toremove SO X from the exhaust. This provides a flexibility of operation inlow alkaline waters, as well as the open ocean. When at sea the switch can be made to open loop using onlyseawater. The sulphur oxides in the exhaust react with the water toform sulphuric acid. Chemicals are not required since the naturalalkalinity of seawater neutralizes the acid. When required to switch to closed loop, for instance whilst enteringa port in a low alkalinity area, the natural alkalinity of seawater isboosted by an alkali which uses caustic soda (NaOH) as a buffer.89

EXHAUST GAS CLEANING• Wärtsilä Open Loop Scrubber SystemThe Wärtsilä open loop scrubber systems are designed to removeSO X from the exhaust and operates utilising seawater. The open loopscrubber system is our most straightforward scrubbing method. Itutilizes the natural alkalinity in seawater for scrubbing, and does notneed caustic soda. This method can be used in most seas around theworld, where alkalinity levels are high.Exhaust gas enters the scrubber and is sprayed with seawater, the SO X in the exhaust reacts with water and forms sulphuric acid.Chemicals are not required since the natural alkalinity of seawaterneutralises the acid. Wash water from the scrubber is treated andmonitored to ensure that it conforms to MEPC 184(59) criteria and canbe discharged into the sea with no risk of harm to the environment.90

• Wärtsilä Closed Loop Scrubber SystemThe Wärtsilä closed loop scrubber system is designed to remove SO Xfrom the exhaust and operates utilising wash water. The system workscontinuously in closed loop, which means no unnecessary concernregarding sea water alkalinity levels and is best suited for full timeoperation in low alkalinity areas (e.g. the Great Lakes). In a closed loop scrubber system, the exhaust gas enters thescrubber and is sprayed with sea water that has been mixed withcaustic soda (NaOH). The sulphur oxides in the exhaust react with thismixture and are neutralised. A small bleed-off is extracted from theclosed loop and treated to fulfil IMO requirements. Cleaned effluentscan be safely discharged overboard with no harm to the environment. If operation in zero discharge mode is requested, the effluent canbe led to a holding tank for scheduled and periodical discharge.91

OIL & GAS SYSTEMSUsing Flare Gas recovery solution will allow a safe and cost effectiverecovery of gas that can be used for a wide range of purposes:• z Export gas• z Fuel• z Re-injection into well• z Feed for boilers• z Recovered back to feedstock• z Used in any other system which needs gasEliminating the need of continues flaring have many other positiveeffects:• z Substantially reduces emission of CO 2 and NO X• z Creates a safer and healthier working environment• z Reduces noise from flaring• z Reduces radiation from flaring• z Increases flare tip lifetime, saving significant maintenance costs onshutdown and flare tip replacement• z Saves cost due to pollution taxation100

GAS RECOVERY• Wärtsilä Flare Gas RecoveryThe Wärtsilä Flare Gas Recovery System is designed to handle gasthat is normally flared during normal oil, gas, and petrochemicalinstallation operations.Recovering flare gas allows:• z Emissions to air to be reduced• z A safer and healthier working environment• z Increased profits thanks to cessation of flaring (taxes) and extendedflare tip lifetime. The recovered gas can be used as fuel, export gas or for re-injectioninto the well. The system can be tailored for different processconditions and requirements (international, client and classificationsociety). It can also be combined with Wärtsilä’s hydrocarbonblanketing system, the Wärtsilä GasReformer and Wärtsilä’s flareignition system.• Wärtsilä Flare Gas Ignition systemThe Wärtsilä Flare Gas Ignition system is designed to handle gas that isnormally flared in oil, gas, and petrochemical applications. The Wärtsilä Flare Gas Ignition system has been developed toguarantee safe and reliable ignition of the flare whenever required. The system combines high reliability and availability throughout thelifetime of the facility. It features low maintenance requirements and iseasily retrofitted into existing installations.More than one hundred low pressure ballistic pellet ignitionsystems have been supplied by Wärtsilä worldwide for both offshoreand onshore projects.101

OIL & GAS SYSTEMSOur Hydrocarbon Gas Blanketing Systems are already used onboardnumerous projects in the North Sea and West Africa.• Wärtsilä Hydrocarbon Blanketing SystemsThe Wärtsilä Hydrocarbon Blanketing System is designed to usehydrocarbons as blanket gas for the cargo tanks during loading andoffloading of the oil.Using hydrocarbons as blanket gas allows:• z Reducing air emissions (hydrocarbons, CO 2, CO).• z Establishing a safer and healthier working environment bypreventing the vent gas from cargo tanks falling onto the main deck.• z Increased profits thanks to reduced flashing of the oil duringloading. The system can be tailored for different process conditions andrequirements (international, client and classification society). It canalso be combined with Wärtsilä’s flare gas recovery, the WärtsiläGasReformer, and Wärtsilä’s flare ignition systems.102

GAS RECOVERYThe first VOC condensation system with zero emissions was installed onthe shuttle tanker Stena Alexita, operated by ExxonMobil in the North Seaoil fields.• Wärtsilä Hamworthy VOC RecoveryOur field proven system is self-supplied with energy and results in zeroVOC emissions. These emissions from the global sea transportation of crude oil andassociated products, account for a total of more than 5 million tonnesper year. The Wärtsilä Hamworthy VOC plant ensures that cargo tankpressures are maintained low enough to keep the vent valve closed. This prevents VOC from being emitted to the atmosphere, and thegas is instead fed to the VOC recovery module, where it is treated bycompression and condensation. The liquefied gas is then fed to theVOC fuel tank.We have also developed a system for VOC recovery in off shoreoil loading applications. It exceeds the Norwegian authorities’requirements for Non-Methane Volatile Organic Compounds (NMVOCs)by reducing VOC emissions by 100 per cent, including methane, whichis not currently specified in the regulatory requirements.103

OIL & GAS SYSTEMS• Wärtsilä GasReformerThis solution makes it possible to utilise gaseous fuels that eithercontain large amounts of heavier hydrocarbons or vary in theircomposition. Gases that were previously considered as waste cannow be converted into a valuable resource of energy. Together withWärtsilä dual-fuel (DF) engines, this is the most efficient and flexiblesolution for utilising associated gas, stranded gas, natural gas liquids,LPG or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) recovered from oil and gasindustry. The main application area is in offshore oil and gas production.Wärtsilä GasReformer has been developed and designed to meet thestandards of the oil & gas industry and is the first of its kind in theworld. The technology is based on steam reforming (SR), a catalyticprocess known from the petrochemical industry and refineries, wheretraditionally hydrogen is produced from various hydrocarbon feeds. The Wärtsilä GasReformer exploits the same catalytic process butoperates under different conditions. In the Wärtsilä GasReformerthe methane number (MN) of any fuel gas is improved to 100 ± 5 byconverting the heavier hydrocarbons to synthesis gas (H 2 + CO) andfinally to methane (CH 4).104

Environmental excellenceOffshore gas flaring is increasingly recognised as a major environmentalproblem, causes 400 million tons of CO 2 in annual emissions, not tomention the valuable resources that go to waste. The associated gas, separated from crude oil, is traditionally flaredand not utilised because it varies in composition, and contains a lotof heavier hydrocarbons. Generally it is considered as waste or anunreliable source of energy. With the Wärtsilä GasReformer, this undesired gas can be reliablyand efficiently utilised by Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines. When utilisingassociated gas or recovered VOCs as a reliable source of energy, the operator can achieve self-sufficiency in terms of energy supplyand thus the need for fuel bunkering, a costly operation in offshorelocations, decreases. With an 8 MW Wärtsilä GasReformer combinedwith a dual-fuel engine utilising associated gas, the operator canreduce the need for bunkered fuel oil by about 35–39 tons per day. With a Wärtsilä DF engine the system produces electricity with anoverall efficiency of up to 44.5%.Key benefits• z Reduction of CO 2 and VOC emissions• z Flare gas can be utilised for power production• z No need for flaring• z Reduced fuel consumption and fuel bunkering• z Low NO X emissions from proven dual-fuel engines• z Dual-fuel engines can operate at full load and efficiency• z Operator can change gas source during operation• z Decreased carbon footprint for operating companyProduct Specification per 1 MW shaft power of DF enginePressure (design)7–10 (11) bargTemperature (design) 300-420 (500) °CFeed gas (MN 50) mass flow rate 189 kg/h/MWFeed gas volumetric flow rate 176 kg/h/MWTotal steam demandof which recycled condesate waterof which fresh water220 kg/h/MW170 kg/h/MW50 kg/h/MWCooling demand150 kW/MWDimensions (mm) and weights (tonnes)GasReformer capacity Length Width Height WeightGAS RECOVERYEl. heater, max (kW)Nitrogenconsumptionstart-up(shut-down)4 MW 5000 3000 3000 15 30 5 (20) Nm 38 MW 5800 3500 3500 18.5 100 6 (27) Nm 318 MW 7000 4800 4200 40 250 15 (60) Nm 3105

OIL SEPARATION• Wärtsilä iPhase ®The Wärtsilä iPhase ® profiler measures the oil-water interface, providing accurate measurements of water conductivity and therebythe oil in water profile inside hydrocarbon separators.Several independent sensors are located above each other in orderto measure a vertical profile of the separator contents. Each sensormeasures the bulk properties of the surrounding fluid. The measurementis conducted without electrodes and over a large volume which makes itless sensitive to deposits. The Wärtsilä iPhase ® electronic module is located on thetop of the separator vessel and is connected to the WärtsiläiPhase ® Measurement Rod, located inside the vessel. It performs all calculations onboard and can directly beaccessed by the plant control system via MODBUS RTU or4–20 mA signaling.Measurement principleThe Wärtsilä iPhase ® profiler measures the electricalconductivity of the water/oil mixture surrounding eachsensor. Dispersed oil droplets are non-conductivecompared to the surrounding water. The overall conductivitywill therefore decrease with increasing concentration ofoil. The Wärtsilä iPhase ® sensors utilize the conductivitydifference to provide the oil in water profile. The conductivity is measured by setting up an electricfield and measure the current flowing. The electric field is aninduced field and is therefore very tolerant to deposits.Features• z Inductive measurement principle• z Tolerant to deposits• z High accuracy oil/water interface determination• z Separator water profiling• z Detection of sand build-up• z Integrated temperature sensor• z Intrinsically safe electronics• z No active components inside vessel• z Control system interface MODBUS RTU (RS485)• z 4–20 mA for interface signaling• z Certifications: ATEX Ex ia IIB T4, IECEX, EMC, UL• z No export restrictions119

PROPULSORS & GEARSWÄRTSILÄ GEARSWärtsilä gears have been designed to meet the highest standards ofoperational efficiency, reliability and low noise and vibration.Gear configurations• z Single input gears: gears with single input and single propellerspeed. Wärtsilä designation SCV for vertical offset, and SCH forhorizontal offset. Available with or without clutch.• z Double gears: gears with twin input and single propeller speed.Wärtsilä designation TCH.• z 2-speed gears: gears with single input and 2 propeller speeds.Wärtsilä designation SCV/2 for vertical offset, and SCH/2 forhorizontal offset. All Wärtsilä gears can be supplied with built in multi-disc clutches.Power take-off (PTO)All Wärtsilä gears can be supplied with one or more PTOs for drivingthe shaft alternator, compressor or pump. For single vertical andhorizontal gears, the standard PTO is primary driven. For double gears, the PTO is optionally primary or secondary driven.• z A primary driven PTO is rotating whenever the engine is rotating.• z A secondary driven PTO is rotating whenever the propeller shaftis rotating.Power take-in (PTI)Most Wärtsilä gears can be supplied with a combined PTO/PTI. In PTImode the shaft alternator can also be used as an electric motor.PTI is normally used for the following operation modes:• z PTI “Booster” mode is used when the main power of the engine istoo small, in order to increase the total propulsion power. For thismode, no clutches are required on the gear.• z PTI “Take me home” mode is used in case of emergency, if the primemover is out of operation. For this mode a minimum of 2 clutches arerequired on the gear.Integrated or separate hydraulic system for gear andcontrollable pitch (CP) propellerMost Wärtsilä gears are purpose-designed with an integrated hydraulicsystem for both the gear and the CP propeller. As the separate hydraulicpower unit for the CP propeller is superfluous, both installation costsfor the yard and operational costs for the owner are reduced. For safetyreasons the gear mechanically drives the main pump for the propeller. All gears can also be interfaced to a separate hydraulic power unit.122

• Wärtsilä 2-speed gearThe Wärtsilä 2-speed gear is designed to serve vessels having multipleoperational modes or reduced transit speed. In particular, RoPaxferries, offshore support vessels, tug boats and fishing vessels cangain notable economic and environmental benefits. Also single screwvessels with redundant propulsion system (“take me home system”)will benefit from this gear type.By operating the ship’s propeller at low speed when maximumvessel speed or propeller thrust is not required, fuel consumption canbe reduced by as much as 15 percent compared to a single mechanicalpropulsion system. At the same time, nitrogen oxide (NO X) and sulphuroxide (SO X) emissions are similarly lowered.Benefits• z Fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions reduced• z Reliable performance with low transmission losses• z Acts as a systems enabler for vessels with variable operationalmodes and/or a need for a redundant propulsion system• z Two selectable propeller speeds at 100% engine speed• z Provides efficient utilisation of the main engine• z PTO power 100% of the engine power• z PTO power uninterrupted when changing propeller speed• z Reliable and simple to operate with mode changes from the bridge• z Lower noise levels for onboard comfort and ecological friendliness123

PROPULSORS & GEARS• Wärtsilä Fixed Pitch PropellersWärtsilä fixed pitch propellers are manufactured by the Wärtsilä CMEZhenjiang Propeller Co.,Ltd joint venture company. At this facility fixedpitch propellers with diameters from 1 m to 12 meters and up to 120tons weight can be produced. As at the end of 2014, more than 2 000propellers have been produced since the joint venture company wasestablished in 2004. Furthermore, it is able to take advantage of theextensive experience and databases of LIPS and Wärtsilä with regardto propeller design and production technology. The propeller and shaft line design tools are based upon longexperience with calculations, model test results, Computational FluidDynamics (CFD), and full scale results.Propeller efficiency, noise and vibration requirements are the mainconsiderations for propeller designs that can be applied for a widevariety of speeds and power densities, and for any type of ship. Theunique Wärtsilä Cunial ® propeller material provides excellent casting, machining and fatigue properties.132

FIXED PITCH PROPELLERSReplacement PropellersWärtsilä’s extensive design knowledge and modern design tools canenable signifi cant efficiency increases when retrofi tting propellers.Existing propellers that are based on older design principles ordifferent working conditions, such as slow steaming, can be replacedto reduce the fuel oil consumption. Efficiency improvements up to15% are possible.EnergoProFinThe Wärtsilä EnergoProFin is a propeller cap with fins, rotating togetherwith the propeller, that can provide fuel oil savings from 2 to 5%.The EnergoProFin improves propulsive efficiency by weakeningthe hub vortex. Installing the Wärtsilä EnergoProFin can increase theoverall propulsion efficiency up to 5% with a payback time of less thanone year. The EnergoProFin can also be applied to reduce propellerinducednoise and vibrations. The Wärtsilä EnergoProFin is suitable for all new build and existingvessels with fixed pitch propellers.133

PROPULSORS & GEARS• Wärtsilä Built-Up PropellersThe Wärtsilä Built-Up Propeller (BUP) is an attractive alternative for amonobloc propeller. The easy (de)mountable blades and the possibilityof under water (de)mounting enable the propeller blades to be replacedor repaired without interruption to the normal operating service. The built-up propellers are supplied in stainless steel or bronze.Connections towards the propeller shaft is with a flange and fit bolts. Most built-up propellers are delivered with 4- and 5-blades propellers, but 6-bladed propellers can also be delivered on request. There are nopropeller diameter or weight limits. The flush and compact hub designin combination with efficiency optimised propeller blades makes theBUP fit for applications were low fuel consumption is important.Built-up propellers are typically installed on ice-breakers andoffshore patrol vessels that operate in ice infested waters or operationalareas with increased risk of propeller damage. Long interruptions ofthe vessel operating schedule are avoided due to the fast (under water)replacement of blades. Limited replacement time enables the vesselto maintain its schedule, which is beneficial for vessels with a fixedoperating schedule such as cruise vessels and ferries.134

FP PROPELLERS• Coastal and Inland Waterways PropellersCoastal and inland propulsion systems are specialized for vesselsoperating on local waterways, and for coastal and fishing vessels.Wärtsilä has considerable expertise in designing propulsion systemsfor large, fast luxury yachts and government-owned ships as well asa variety of special vessels, all with their own characteristics. Wärtsiläsupplies fixed pitch propellers, nozzles, and propeller shaft assembliescomplete with stern tube systems as part of the propulsion equipmentfor such vessels.Coastal and Inland Waterway Propellers are available in bronzeor stainless steel. They are tailor-made with 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 blades. The accuracy can be according to ISO class II, I or S. Wärtsilä hasthe capability to deliver fixed pitch propellers for any diameter above1 000 mm, although for the coastal and inland waterway segment theyare seldom larger than 3 500 mm.135

PROPULSORS & GEARS• Wärtsilä High Performance NozzleFitting a nozzle increases the thrust at relatively low ship speeds. This allows for signifi cant savings to be achieved in terms of fuelconsumption, depending on the number of revolutions and thecapacity of the engine. The improved Wärtsilä High Performancenozzle, type HP nozzle, when combined with Wärtsilä propellers, canprovide up to 5% more thrust than conventional nozzles in bollard pullcondition. The nozzle profile offers a double profiled cross section atthe inlet side of the nozzle.• Wärtsilä EnergopacEnergopac is the optimised propulsion and manoeuvring solution forcoastal and ocean going vessels. The key objective is to reduce thevessel’s fuel consumption by integrating the design of both propellerand rudder. Each Energopac is designed to fit the intended vesseland to meet its specific requirements; this allows Energopac to beoptimised fully for energy efficiency, whilst not compromising on eithermanoeuvrability or comfort levels.• Improved propulsive energy efficiency• Reduced fuel consumption• Excellent maneuverability• Lower vibration levels and higher on-board comfort• Reduced levels of emissions• Integrated propeller and rudder design136

NOZZLES AND RUDDERSFuel savingsEnergopac reduces fuel consumption because it effectively reducesthe flow separation behind the propeller hub. Extended studies showthat for the same course-keeping capabilities, Energopac will createless drag than conventional rudder systems.Typical applicationsEnergopac can effectively reduce the operational costs for any vesselwith a considerable share of free sailing time in its operational profile. Itworks very well for propellers with a relatively large propeller hub. Thepotential savings are large for vessels with highly loaded controllablepitch propeller systems, such as Ro-Ro vessels, ferries, container/multipurpose vessels, and vessels with an ice class notation. Inaddition to controllable pitch propeller applications, Energopac canalso be applied on vessels with fixed pitch propellers.Cost savingsThe reduction in fuel consumption depends very much on the vesseltype, its operational profile, and on the reference propeller and rudder. For any application, the power savings can be estimated by Wärtsilä.The estimate is based on the vessel design, its operational profile andother requirements. Proven savings in the power required for a vessel’strial speed vary between 2–9% with Energopac.137

WATERJETSWaterjet size selectionThe selection graphs indicate the jet size required based on the relationbetween the engine power and the design speed of the vessel. Forinstance a ship with four 1 250 kW engines and a corresponding vesselspeed of 33 knots will need four 510 size waterjets. A ship with a designspeed of 40 knots at 1 250 kW power can use 450 size waterjets. Thecorrect jet size is thus indicated by the line above the intersection ofthe power and the corresponding vessel speed. We are available from the earliest design stages of the vessel towork with you on an optimised propulsion system. Please contact usfor an optimised jet selection based on specific vessel designparameters, operating profile or for details of waterjets above 50 knotsor 30 000 kW. DXF/DWG format general arrangement drawings of themost often used sizes are available.ApplicationThe characteristics of a waterjet make it a good propulsor for severaltypes of applications.• z High speed vessels; waterjets have better propulsion efficiency atship speeds over 25–30 knots.• z Shallow draft vessels; the integrated steering function providesbenefits for rescue vessels, inshore passenger ferries, landingcrafts & special work boats.• z High power density; the pressure built-up in the waterjet inletallows small dimensions.• z Maneuverability; waterjets have integrated steering and reversingwith quick response times.153

WASTE, OIL & FRESH WATER MANAGEMENTWärtsilä Serck ComoMulti Stage Flash EvaporatorsThe Wärtsilä Serck Como multi-stage flash (MSF) evaporator is utilisedfor producing fresh water from seawater, well water or industrial water.A special advantage of the multi-stage flash technology is that thespecific heat consumption (or thermal efficiency) can be continuouslyadapted to the individual requirements of each application. The produced distillate has a very low salt content which makes itsuitable as technical water (e.g. boiler feed water). The distillate qualityand quantity are independent from the seawater temperature whichmakes the MSF technology a reliable source for freshwater.Characteristics• z Capacity up to 1500 t/d.• z Salt content of the distillate ≤ 4 ppm NaCI.• z Steady production of freshwater at seawater temperatures between0–32°C• z Either steam, engine jacket water or a combination of these can beutilised for heating• z Corrosion resistant materials (e.g. copper- nickel) for componentsin contact with seawaterKey benefits• z Flexible dimensions• z Full-automatic operation• z High availability due to low maintenance requirements• z Technology with the lowest lifecycle costs• z Efficiency gained by the use of frequency converter for pumps• z Minimised risk of scaling becauseheat transfer and evaporationare taking place indifferent areas180

• Wärtsilä Serck ComoSingle Stage Desalination SystemsThe Wärtsilä Serck Como Single Stage Desalination (SSD) fresh watergenerator uses the process of vacuum distillation to remove the saltand other impurities from seawater and convert it into high quality, drinkable fresh water. Thanks to the low seawater flow the WärtsiläSerck Como SSD consumes a reduced amount of electricity. The system uses a vacuum distillation process that enables the useof low temperature heat. The generator utilises the waste heat fromthe main diesel engine or other alternative heat sources to evaporatethe seawater. The technology is simple and has a modular design. The automatedoperation and low maintenance requirements enable continuous anduser friendly handling.Wärtsilä has developed an energy efficient and cost-effectivetechnology for seawater desalination, with a capacity up to 35 t/d, formarine and offshore applications.Key benefits• z Low electrical consumption• z High distillate qualityEasy operation181

WASTE, OIL & FRESH WATER MANAGEMENTWärtsilä Oily Water SeparatorsThe Wärtsilä Oily Water Separator (OWS) easily handles bilge waterwith minimum impact for operation staff and with results that easilysurpasses current and future legislative requirements. The technology behind the Wärtsilä OWS is a combination ofoptimized traditional methods and innovative new <strong>solutions</strong>. Theseparator consists of a four-stage, emulsion-breaking unit, where eachstage handles one key component of the sludge and bilge mix. It canhandle input flows with an oil content of between 0 and 100%, makingit the most versatile separator on the market. The Wärtsilä OWS units are IMO and US Coast Guard approvedand gives the operator effective control over all bilge media as well asover any discharges made into the sea. The amount of oil in water aftertreatment is less than 5 ppm.Wärtsilä Bilge Water GuardWärtsilä Bilge Water Guard is a fully automated bilge dischargemonitoring system which constantly oversees and monitors the oilcontent in all discharges overboard.Should the oil content rise above the set limit, the fl ow will bererouted back to the bilge tank. The system logs the discharge quantityand oil content as well as time and location of the ship. All data isstored in memory for later retrieval.182

The system is enclosed in a locked, tamper-proof cabinet and allaccesses are logged in memory. For both crew members and shipmanagement, the Wärtsilä Bilge Water Guard provides a pricelesssafety net and possibility to make evident the compliance withapplicable regulations.• Wärtsilä Slop Water Treatment SystemThe Wärtsilä slop water treatment system is designed to cleanwater (deck washing water or rain) contaminated with oil or drillingmud produced by offshore operational activity - enabling it to bedischargeable to the sea without further treatment. The system consists of two units – a MWD (Mud Water Decanter)and SWC (Slop Water Cleaning) unit. In the first stage the MWDseparates the mud and oil from the water emulsion, and in the secondthe SWC treats and discharges the emulsified water.Slop water/mud is a waste stream which is produced when an oil/synthetic/diesel drilling fluid becomes contaminated with water, andis amongst the most significant waste streams from exploration anddevelopment activities. The system will significantly reduce drill slop sent offshore by asmuch as 80–90%.183

WASTE, OIL & FRESH WATER MANAGEMENTWärtsilä HamworthySewage Treatment PlantsThe Wärtsilä Hamworthy Super Trident sewage treatment plantis the cost-effective and safe answer to disposing of waste at sea, maintaining the quality of the world’s oceans. Our STC-13 series of sewage treatment plants are certified to meetIMO MEPC 227(64) guidelines, which will be applicable to new shipswhose keels will be laid on or after 1 January 2016.Optimised for the treatment of black and grey wastewater flows, and suitable for conventional gravity and vacuum fed collectionsystems, all plants are controlled automatically. This allows unattendedoperation, with reduced maintenance requirements and lower longtermoperating costs. The systems are compact and modular in design, suitable forbetween-deck installations, and are adaptable to customer new buildspecifications.Large ST-C sewagetreatment plantSmall STC-13 sewagetreatment plant184

Wärtsilä HamworthyMembrane BioReactor (MBR) SystemsWärtsilä Hamworthy MBR technology is based on biologicaldegradation and membrane separation and allows for the treatment ofgrey and black water to satisfy the most stringent standards. The process produces the highest quality discharge withoutrequiring any addition or generation of chemicals that are hazardous tothe environment or ship operation.Effluent quality tests conducted by the US National SanitaryFoundation on Wärtsilä Hamworthy MBR produced results exceedingthe most stringent future legislative pollutant standards envisaged. Thetechnology also achieved outstanding performance in Alaska underthe scrutiny of the local authority, USCG and USEPA studies over thepast seasons. We also supply smaller, more compact versions of our MBRsystems. Wärtsilä Hamworthy miniMBR’s are ideal for use on smallercruise and naval vessels, plus ferries with up to a 200 complement, aswell as FPSOs and accommodation platforms.Wärtsilä HamworthyMBR systemMembrane module forlarger vessels – eachsystem is tailoredin-house to bespokespecifications185

WASTE, OIL & FRESH WATER MANAGEMENTWärtsilä Vacuum Collection SystemsThe Wärtsilä vacuum collection system uses differential air pressureto transport sewage from the toilet bowls, and other sanitary fittings,to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) or independent collection tank.Ejectors can be mounted direct to the STP for modular constructionwithout the need for a separate collection tank, and only a small amountof flush water is needed compared to conventional gravity systems.Features• z Ejectors can be mounted direct to the STP for modular constructionwithout the need for a separate collection tank• z Only a small amount of flush water is needed compared toconventional gravity systems• z Vertical Lift capability• z Smaller diameter piping, independent of slope• z Reduced peak loadings allow use of smaller sewage treatmentplant than for gravity systems• z Ejector performance optimised using Computational FluidDynamics (CFD)Additional optional features• z Grey water vacuum collection to separate grey water collectiontank(s)• z Retrofit to existing tanks• z Foam suppressant• z PLC interface with data logger• z Overboard discharge from vacuum circulation pump• z Controlled feed/transfer equipmentWärtsilä Vacuum ToiletsThe Wärtsilä vacuum flush toilet has been designed to be mechanicallysimple, operationally reliable, and stylish in appearance.Wärtsilä vacuum toilets use air to drive waste from the toilet to thetreatment tank or intermediate collection tank.
