1. Education & Training Updates – 2012-2013During this period Federation <strong>of</strong> Malaysian Freight Forwarders (FMFF) have conducted thefollowing courses:1. 10 sessions <strong>of</strong> Foundation Course in Freight Forwarding and Multimodal Transport. Total <strong>of</strong>186 participants attended the sessions.2 To facilitate the renewal <strong>of</strong> Custom Agent License the forwarding companies are required toattend the ‘Customs Agent’s course’ (KEK). During the term, FMFF conducted 6 CustomsAgent’s courses and 4 Shipping Agent’s course. A total <strong>of</strong> 451 participants attended andbenefited from the program.2. FMFF has been accredited to conduct the FIATA Diploma course in October 2011. To date 97students have attended various modules <strong>of</strong> the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding.3. FMFF is still in discussion with DCA, Malaysia to get the necessary clearance to conduct theICAO-FIATA DGR Program.2 Forthcoming Training & Development Updates Program for 2013FMFF have broadened its range <strong>of</strong> training courses <strong>of</strong>fered in the year 2012.-2013. Some <strong>of</strong> the coursesare:1. Incoterms 2010- 64 participants from 2 classes and another class is scheduled in July 2013.2. Dangerous Goods Regulations-Basic – 8 participants3. Customs Facilitations – 8 participants4. Introduction to Logistics Security – 7 participants5. Import/Export Requirements – 13 participants.FMFF/PFFA has set up its Approved Training Centre under IATA, which was <strong>of</strong>ficially opened on 9 th <strong>of</strong>March 2012. The ATC has conducted the IATA Introductory course in February 2013, with 10participants.4


FMFF has continued its collaboration with TARC (Tuanku Abdul Rahman College), Centre forExtension Learning to conduct the Foundation course for mature students and those interested to join thelogistics industry. 4 courses have already been conducted during this period.FMFF is also in collaboration with UTAR (University Tuanku Abdul Rahman) to collaborate on theDegree in Logistics program, which will incorporate the FIATA Diploma programme into the Degreeprogram..MUST (Malaysia University <strong>of</strong> Science and Technology) and FMFF has signed an MOA to collaborateon the Foundation and FIATA Diploma program, to be embedded into MUST’s Diploma andFoundation Programs. The MUST Diploma program in Freight Forwarding has received theaccreditation <strong>of</strong> the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. The Diploma program in MUST commenced inApril 2013, with FMFF providing the lecturers.FMFF has also entered into MOU with AEC (Ace Education Consortium, Singapore) and its Malaysianassociate Malvern International College to collaborate on the Diploma in Freight Forwarding program.Government has set up the MLSC (Malaysian Logistics and Supply Chain Council) in 2013 as aplatform to deliberate and propose policy decisions affecting the logistics industry. The MLSC is jointlychaired by the Secretaries General <strong>of</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> International Trade and Industry and Ministry <strong>of</strong>Transport. 4 Focus Groups have been set up to deliberate and submit proposals for deliberation at theMLSC. The 4 Focus Groups are:• Focus Group on Trade Facilitation• Focus Group on Infrastructure and Transport• Focus Group Industry, Best Practices and Development Initiatives• Focus Group on Institutional & Regulatory FrameworkFMFF is a member <strong>of</strong> the first three Focus Groups, which have had their first meeting in April and May.FMFF has submitted the issue <strong>of</strong> secure <strong>freight</strong> and the requirements <strong>of</strong> US and EC countries on aircargo security, including the ACC3 implementation to the Focus Group for deliberation.3. 4. SEA-FREIGHT STATISTICS.Malaysian Sea Ports handled a total <strong>of</strong> 20,779.315 teus in 2012, an increase <strong>of</strong> 2.8 % over the previousyear’s throughput <strong>of</strong> 20,213,519 teus.6
