publications, more than half of them in internationally recognised magazines and
conferences.
Wilfried.Thoben.is the director of the Healthcare Information and Communication
Systems R & D division at the OFFIS research institute in Oldenburg, Germany. He is
a graduate of Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg where he received
his MS in computer science in 1993. Dr. Thoben received his PhD in computer science
from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, Germany in 1999. His
research topics include security of workflow based applications and epidemiological
cancer registration. Since 2001 he is also CEO of the OFFIS CARE GmbH, a spinoff
of OFFIS that is responsible for the cancer registry Lower-Saxony.
Christopher.Thomas.is a PhD student in the LSDIS lab, University of Georgia,
USA. His academic background is computer science and artificial intelligence. His
main research focus is semantics, knowledge representation and reasoning. Recently
he has been working in the field of computational biochemistry to develop ontologies
and reasoning mechanisms suitable for the complex carbohydrate domain.
His research in representation of uncertain, incomplete and partially inconsistent
knowledge is geared towards developing formalism that can be applied beyond the
life sciences domain in all Semantic Web areas.
Andriy.Zharko.graduated from the Kharkov National University of Radielectronics
in June 2003 with a Diploma of Engineer in intelligent decision support systems. In
December 2003 he successfully finished the Master’s program at the University of
Jyvaskyla, Finland, Department of Mathematical Information Technology, where
he obtained a degree of Master of Science in mobile computing study line with the
highest grade. Additionally, he obtained Excellent Master’s Thesis Award in 2004.
He has also been a member of the “Industrial Ontologies Group” research group
since January 2003 and a researcher at the Agora Research Center, University of
Jyväskylä, Finland. In the beginning of 2004, he started his postgraduate studies
with the MIT Department with a topic “Active Resources in Semantic Web.” His
research is concerned with peer-to-peer Semantic Web based large-scale systems
combined with agent-oriented analysis. The main research activities are carried out
within the SmartResource Tekes project.
