conferences.<br />

Wilfried.Thoben.is <strong>the</strong> director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Healthcare <strong>Information</strong> and Communication<br />

<strong>Systems</strong> R & D division at <strong>the</strong> OFFIS research institute in Oldenburg, Germany. He is<br />

a graduate <strong>of</strong> Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg where he received<br />

his MS in computer science in 1993. Dr. Thoben received his PhD in computer science<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Carl von Ossietzky University <strong>of</strong> Oldenburg, Germany in 1999. His<br />

research topics include security <strong>of</strong> workflow based applications and epidemiological<br />

cancer registration. Since 2001 he is also CEO <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> OFFIS CARE GmbH, a spin<strong>of</strong>f<br />

<strong>of</strong> OFFIS that is responsible for <strong>the</strong> cancer registry Lower-Saxony.<br />

Christopher.Thomas.is a PhD student in <strong>the</strong> LSDIS lab, University <strong>of</strong> Georgia,<br />

USA. His academic background is computer science and artificial intelligence. His<br />

main research focus is semantics, knowledge representation and reasoning. Recently<br />

he has been working in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> computational biochemistry to develop ontologies<br />

and reasoning mechanisms suitable for <strong>the</strong> complex carbohydrate domain.<br />

His research in representation <strong>of</strong> uncertain, incomplete and partially inconsistent<br />

knowledge is geared towards developing formalism that can be applied beyond <strong>the</strong><br />

life sciences domain in all <strong>Semantic</strong> <strong>Web</strong> areas.<br />

Andriy.Zharko.graduated from <strong>the</strong> Kharkov National University <strong>of</strong> Radielectronics<br />

in June 2003 with a Diploma <strong>of</strong> Engineer in intelligent decision support systems. In<br />

December 2003 he successfully finished <strong>the</strong> Master’s program at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong><br />

Jyvaskyla, Finland, Department <strong>of</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matical <strong>Information</strong> Technology, where<br />

he obtained a degree <strong>of</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Science in mobile computing study line with <strong>the</strong><br />

highest grade. Additionally, he obtained Excellent Master’s Thesis Award in 2004.<br />

He has also been a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> “Industrial Ontologies Group” research group<br />

since January 2003 and a researcher at <strong>the</strong> Agora Research Center, University <strong>of</strong><br />

Jyväskylä, Finland. In <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> 2004, he started his postgraduate studies<br />

with <strong>the</strong> MIT Department with a topic “Active Resources in <strong>Semantic</strong> <strong>Web</strong>.” His<br />

research is concerned with peer-to-peer <strong>Semantic</strong> <strong>Web</strong> based large-scale systems<br />

combined with agent-oriented analysis. The main research activities are carried out<br />

within <strong>the</strong> SmartResource Tekes project.<br />
