About the Authors
Amnon.Shabo.(Shvo), PhD, works at IBM Research Lab in Haifa as a research
staff member and is involved in various health care and life sciences projects. He
is a co-chair and the modeling facilitator of the Clinical Genomics Special Interest
Group in HL7 (an ANSI-accredited Standards Development Organization in health
care), and a co-editor of the HL7 CDA Release 2 standard for clinical documents. In
addition, Amnon specializes in longitudinal and cross-institutional Electronic Health
Records (EHR). Amnon was the visionary and a co-author of the mEHR proposal
made by a consortium of nineteen partners to the European Commission’s Sixth
Framework Program, based on his vision of Independent Health Records Banks for
addressing the lifetime EHR sustainability challenge. In his academic studies he has
built on his BSc degrees in biology, mathematics, and computer sciences to conduct
research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the areas of educational technology
for biology and medicine, as well cognitive sciences and case-based reasoning
through his postdoc research at the College of Computing of Georgia Institute of
Technology in the USA. Amnon has extensive experience in education through 20
years of teaching basic programming to life sciences university students.
Rahul.Singh.is a faculty member in the Information Systems and Operations Management
Department at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, USA. He
obtained his PhD in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
His research interests are in the area of the design of systems that apply intelligent
technologies to business decision systems. Specific interests include intelligent agents,
knowledge management systems, data mining and machine learning systems. His
research work has been published, or accepted for publication in CACM, eService
Journal, Information Resources Management Journal, Journal of Decision Systems,
International Journal of Production Engineering Socio-Economic Planning Sciences
and The Encyclopedia of Information Systems.
Vagan.Terziyan.received his engineer-mathematician degree in applied mathematics
from Kharkov National University of Radioelectronics (1981). He became a Candidate
of Technical Sciences (DrTech equivalent) in 1985 and a Doctor of Technical
Sciences in 1993 (Dr Habil Tech equivalent) with the Software Engineering Department.
He is acting as professor on software engineering (1994) and as head of
the Department of Artificial Intelligence (1997). His area of research interests and
teaching includes but are not limited by the following: intelligent Web applications,
distributed AI, agents, multiagent systems and agent-oriented software engineering,
Semantic Web and Web services, peer-to-peer, knowledge management, knowledge
discovery and machine learning, and mobile electronic commerce. Recently he has
been working as an associate professor with the MIT Department, University of
Jyväskylä, Finland, and as a senior researcher and team leader at the SmartResource
(Proactive Self-Maintained Resources in Semantic Web) TEKES Project in Agora
