About <strong>the</strong> Authors<br />

Amnon.Shabo.(Shvo), PhD, works at IBM Research Lab in Haifa as a research<br />

staff member and is involved in various health care and life sciences projects. He<br />

is a co-chair and <strong>the</strong> modeling facilitator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Clinical Genomics Special Interest<br />

Group in HL7 (an ANSI-accredited Standards Development Organization in health<br />

care), and a co-editor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> HL7 CDA Release 2 standard for clinical documents. In<br />

addition, Amnon specializes in longitudinal and cross-institutional Electronic Health<br />

Records (EHR). Amnon was <strong>the</strong> visionary and a co-author <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mEHR proposal<br />

made by a consortium <strong>of</strong> nineteen partners to <strong>the</strong> European Commission’s Sixth<br />

Framework Program, based on his vision <strong>of</strong> Independent Health Records Banks for<br />

addressing <strong>the</strong> lifetime EHR sustainability challenge. In his academic studies he has<br />

built on his BSc degrees in biology, ma<strong>the</strong>matics, and computer sciences to conduct<br />

research at <strong>the</strong> Hebrew University <strong>of</strong> Jerusalem in <strong>the</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> educational technology<br />

for biology and medicine, as well cognitive sciences and case-based reasoning<br />

through his postdoc research at <strong>the</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Computing <strong>of</strong> Georgia Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Technology in <strong>the</strong> USA. Amnon has extensive experience in education through 20<br />

years <strong>of</strong> teaching basic programming to life sciences university students.<br />

Rahul.Singh.is a faculty member in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Information</strong> <strong>Systems</strong> and Operations Management<br />

Department at The University <strong>of</strong> North Carolina at Greensboro, USA. He<br />

obtained his PhD in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.<br />

His research interests are in <strong>the</strong> area <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> design <strong>of</strong> systems that apply intelligent<br />

technologies to business decision systems. Specific interests include intelligent agents,<br />

knowledge management systems, data mining and machine learning systems. His<br />

research work has been published, or accepted for publication in CACM, eService<br />

Journal, <strong>Information</strong> Resources Management Journal, Journal <strong>of</strong> Decision <strong>Systems</strong>,<br />

International Journal <strong>of</strong> Production Engineering Socio-Economic Planning Sciences<br />

and The Encyclopedia <strong>of</strong> <strong>Information</strong> <strong>Systems</strong>.<br />

Vagan.Terziyan.received his engineer-ma<strong>the</strong>matician degree in applied ma<strong>the</strong>matics<br />

from Kharkov National University <strong>of</strong> Radioelectronics (1981). He became a Candidate<br />

<strong>of</strong> Technical Sciences (DrTech equivalent) in 1985 and a Doctor <strong>of</strong> Technical<br />

Sciences in 1993 (Dr Habil Tech equivalent) with <strong>the</strong> S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineering Department.<br />

He is acting as pr<strong>of</strong>essor on s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering (1994) and as head <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong>ificial Intelligence (1997). His area <strong>of</strong> research interests and<br />

teaching includes but are not limited by <strong>the</strong> following: intelligent <strong>Web</strong> applications,<br />

distributed AI, agents, multiagent systems and agent-oriented s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering,<br />

<strong>Semantic</strong> <strong>Web</strong> and <strong>Web</strong> services, peer-to-peer, knowledge management, knowledge<br />

discovery and machine learning, and mobile electronic commerce. Recently he has<br />

been working as an associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor with <strong>the</strong> MIT Department, University <strong>of</strong><br />

Jyväskylä, Finland, and as a senior researcher and team leader at <strong>the</strong> SmartResource<br />

(Proactive Self-Maintained Resources in <strong>Semantic</strong> <strong>Web</strong>) TEKES Project in Agora<br />
