About <strong>the</strong> Authors 0<br />

Veli. Bicer. is an MS student at <strong>the</strong> Middle East Technical University (METU),<br />

Computer Engineering Department, Turkey, and a senior researcher at SRDC. His<br />

research interests include semantic interoperability, <strong>Web</strong> service technology, and<br />

health care informatics.<br />

François.Bry.is currently investigating methods and applications emphasizing XML,<br />

semistructured data, document modelling, and query answering and reactivity on<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Web</strong>. Formerly, he worked on knowledge representation, deductive databases,<br />

automated <strong>the</strong>orem proving, and logic programming. Since 1994, he has been full<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essor at <strong>the</strong> Institute for Informatics, University <strong>of</strong> Munich, Germany. From<br />

1984-1993, he was with <strong>the</strong> European Computer-Industry Research Centre (ECRC),<br />

Munich. Before 1983, he worked in a few companies in Paris, among o<strong>the</strong>rs on an<br />

early word processor. In 1981, he received a PhD from <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Paris. He<br />

has been visiting at several universities and research centers. He has given invited<br />

talks at many major research centers, universities, and scientific conferences. He has<br />

contributed and contributes to scientific conferences as an author, program committee<br />

member or chairman. He has been or is involved in research projects founded<br />

by <strong>the</strong> European Commission (ESPRIT, FP6) and in doctoral schools founded by<br />

<strong>the</strong> German Foundation for Research (DFG). He is <strong>the</strong> scientific coordinator <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

European Network <strong>of</strong> Excellence REWERSE (http://rewerse.net) launched by <strong>the</strong><br />

European Commission in 2004.<br />

<strong>Art</strong>em.Chebotko.is a PhD student in <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Computer Science at Wayne<br />

<strong>State</strong> University, USA. His research interests include databases and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Semantic</strong><br />

<strong>Web</strong>. He is a student member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> IEEE.<br />

Oscar.Corcho.has worked at iSOCO as a research manager since March 2004.<br />

Previously, he belonged to <strong>the</strong> Ontological Engineering Group <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AI Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Computer Science School, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). He<br />

graduated in computer science from UPM in 2000 and received <strong>the</strong> third Spanish<br />

award in computer science from <strong>the</strong> Spanish Government. He obtained an MSc in<br />

s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering from UPM (2001) and a PhD in artificial intelligence (2004).<br />

His research activities include ontology languages and tools, <strong>the</strong> ontology translation<br />

problem and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Semantic</strong> <strong>Web</strong> and grid. He has published <strong>the</strong> books Ontological<br />

Engineering and A Layered Declarative Approach to Ontology Translation with<br />

Knowledge Preservation. He has published more than 30 journal and conference/<br />

workshop papers on ontology languages and tools in important forums for <strong>the</strong> ontology<br />

community (ISWC, EKAW, KAW, KCAP, AI Magazine, IEEE Intelligent <strong>Systems</strong>),<br />

and reviews papers in many conferences, workshops and journals. He chaired<br />

<strong>the</strong> demo/industrial sessions at EKAW2002 and co-organised <strong>the</strong> ISWC2003 and<br />

ISWC2004 Workshops on Evaluation <strong>of</strong> Ontology Tools (EON2003, EON2004).<br />
