If you are going to college and /or getting a job, you may need or want a tenanus/Pertussis booster, will need asecond measles vaccine, three Hepatitis B vaccines, or, the meningococcal vaccine to provide protection against one form of meningitis. Alsoavailable is the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine, which prevents one of the major causes of cervical cancer in women. Discuss this with yourparent/guardian and your health care provider. Also, this is a fun time with many celebrations—it is also a time when seniors can be reckless and may take risks they may not have takenbefore. Please remember these points as you celebrate your achievements.1.) Motor vehicles must not be used recklessly. Don’t be the statistic—cars are machines and people are fragile!2.) Wear seat belts! Keep your eyes on the road. Don’t interfere with the driver. Drive defensively more than ever.3.) Do not underestimate how impaired your judgment can become under the influence of even small amounts of alcohol, marijuana, cocaine and other drugs. Do not ride in a car with a driver who is under the influence of any such substance. Do not operate a car if youare under the influence. Call your parents, friends, or a taxi if you need a safe ride home. Celebrate unimpaired, and be high on life! Ifyou are a smoker, consider quitting so you can avoid a lifetime addiction.4.) Transitions are times that can be stressful. Stress can cause old problems to re-emerge. Depression, eating disorders, and substanceabuse problems, among others if seen resurfacing, need prompt attention.5.) This is the time to strive for optimal physical fitness. Don’t forget to exercise, eat healthy foods, and do not skip meals. Also, don’tforget to take care of your teeth. Stay healthy for the rest of your life.6.) Continue to make sound decisions regarding relationships. Do not allow your judgment to be tricked into getting involved in a sexualrelationship that you are not ready for. One careless moment can impact your lifelong efforts to achieve your goals and dreams.May you realize all of your hopes and dreams!!Debbie Midkiff RN BSNHylton School NurseMidkifdl@pwcs.edu703.580.4205Have you moved or changed your phone numbers??It is extremely important that you inform the school of these changes as soon as possible.
