Vladimir Dubossarsky (1964)Alexander Vinogradov (1963)When they began working together in1994, Alexander Vinogradov and VladimirDubossarsky threw a veritable brick through thewindow of the russian art world; the time being ripefor radicalism and conceptual artfor Moscow. In themiddle of this peaceful battlefield, both artists imposetheir will to launch a project inagreement with timeand current fashion trends. Incontrast to the radicals, their statement is neither violent nor in protest butsimply covering the covers of magazines and filmposters. With an aesthetic stemming from social realism(a privilege of the soviet period), their paintingsillustrate a close connection to Pop Art; the centralcharacter arises from imagery of mass. Withthe will to fade as artists, they have decided tocreate public images like the social paintings ofthe previous century. But, the world has changed. The wall has fallen and the empire has collapsedleaving this place to a new ideology of consumption.Their social paintings have been adapted to a newreality where we see magnificent women, film actors, animals, comic strip heroes... Just as the capitalistdream extended through the entire earth, Dubossarskyand Vinogradov want to reach a global audience.Alexander Vinogradov and Vladimir Dubossarskywant to develop a transparent, understandablepainting that speaks a universal language. But theirworks is addressed particularly to Russia. In 1994,Russia emerged out of Perestroika while a certainfear of the future remained. Everything needed to bemade, but without precedent to guide them.Extract from :http://www.finearttv/en/fine-art/uncovered/dubossarsky-and-vinogradovSEM-ART20, avenue de la Costa98000 - MONACOTel. : +377 97 70 50 70Fax : +377 97 70 50 77info@sem-art.mcwww.sem-art.mc1
