According to Independentsector.org, the leadership networkfor non-profits, the current value of one hour of volunteer service is $21.79 (thisfigured was based upon the average hourly wage of all production/nonsupervisoryworkers plus fringe benefits). As of June <strong>2012</strong>, <strong>RSVP</strong> Volunteershave given almost 34,000 hours of service to Sacramento and surroundingcommunities with a dollar value of over $740,000!!Of course, the value of your service goes far beyond the amount of moneysaved by non-profits. A price tag cannot be placed on the skills and dedicationthat you give to organizations and people you serve. Thanks for all that you do!KUDOS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!On Monday, <strong>July</strong> 9 th , <strong>RSVP</strong> Volunteer, Jim Donaghue was featuredin the I Care section of the Sacramento Bee. Jim volunteers at UC DavisHospital in the neonatal unit where he rocks and soothes newborns. He currentlyvolunteers 6 - 7 days/week, 5-7 hours each day. Great job, Jim!○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○<strong>RSVP</strong> Volunteer, Gail Hoberman was nominated for California Volunteers“Volunteer of the Year” Award for her coordination of the Veterans HistoryProject (VHP). Since the project began, 9 years ago, almost 500 Veterans offoreign wars have been interviewed and stories sent to the Library of Congress.Gail has given more then 5000 hours to this project. The award ceremony willtake place in Los Angeles, CA on <strong>July</strong> 31, <strong>2012</strong>. 3VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESThe volunteer opportunities listed are just a small sample of what is available at the <strong>RSVP</strong> Office.Please contact 875-3631 for more information.AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY DISCOVERY SHOP is expanding their Marconi storeand is seeking volunteers. Volunteers are needed to sort and price items, pick up furnituredonations (mileage reimbursement is available), work the cash register, answer phones andassist customers. Many other opportunities are available, days and hours are flexible. Contact:(916) 484-0227 or apply in person at 2744 Marconi Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95821.REBUILDING TOGETHER is seeking installers for their Green Team WeatherizationProgram. Volunteers would help the low income, elderly or disabled lower the energyconsumption in their homes. They would be trained and given supplies to assist with window &door weather striping, replacing electrical gaskets, replacing light bulbs, wrapping water heatersand insulating pipes.Volunteers are asked to commit 2-4 hours weekly or bi-weekly with most of the workperformed in the mornings, but schedules are flexible. Interested individuals must have minor“handy” skills, a valid driver’s license and auto insurance, ability to work in low-incomeneighborhoods with seniors, people with disabilities and families with children and submit toa background check. Days and hours areflexible, school placement assistance is available. 4Mature Driver’s Course is aDMV approved traffic safetyclass for licensed drivers 50years of age and over and isbeing offered on Friday,<strong>August</strong> 10 th and Saturday, <strong>August</strong> 11 th , bothfrom 8am - 4pm. Review basic skills, receive updateson new laws and to learn how to adjust to the effects ofaging. Insurance companies recognize this program andmany offer rate discounts.
