0Steak RestaurantA Brief History of RogerthorpeThe earliest known owner of the Rogerthorpe Estate wasa Samuel Saltonstal who in 1610 started to build thehouse, which later was to become known as RogerthorpeManor.By the late 1700’s a Colonel Edward Rawstorne resided atRogerthorpe Manor.The successor to Rogerthorpe Manor after the death ofJoshua Mason (jnr) in 1879 was William Brackenridge.Later in 1891, Ramsden bought Rogerthorpe Manor fromhis Landlord, Oxley of Ripon. The purchase price was£12,000 for the house and 214 acres of land.Rogerthorpe Manor, having been left by Lt Col Ramsdento his nephew, was sold at public auction on 1st October1928In 1943 Rogerthorpe Manor and 3.5 acres of land wasbought by Frank Bramley Jackson, a director of Jackson’sGlassworks at Knottingley.Rogerthorpe Manor changed hands again in 1955, beingbought by Stanley Tinsdale.In 1972 Kenneth Buchanan took the Manor and stayed foreleven years, and opened the country club to the generalpublic.In 1987 the Manor was bought by Melvyn Wallis and hiswife from London. Their stay was short however, as theManor went into receivership in 1989.In 2004 Rogerthorpe Manor was bought by the Metcalfefamily who continue to improve the Manor into one ofthe premier venues in the area.2010 saw the 400th year anniversary of the Manor andthe newly refurbished 1610 Steakhouse and Lounge wascompleted.
