The proposed solution utilises detailed real timeinformation on train positioning to provide timely short-term plans and optimise train speeds accordingly.ResultsIn 2005, the COMBINE 2 algorithms were being used to automate and optimise management of Line 1 of theMilan metro which carries around half a million passengers a day, with the project partners planning morecommercial applications in the future.17.
