3SCFTMDevice Descriptors MICROWARESCF Field Configuration OptionsTo change an SCF device descriptor module configuration field, you canuse either of the following methods:1. Use the EditMod utility to directly modify existing SCF devicedescriptor modules either as a stand-alone module or as part of amerged module group (such as a boot image).2. Modify the description file for the SCF device descriptor module andrebuild it using the makefile provided.Direct Modification AdvantagesThe direct modification method has the following advantages:FastNo source configuration file rebuilds arenecessary.TemporaryThe original module or merged-module groupconfiguration can be easily restored through theappropriate rebuild.ContainedChanges are limited to the individual bootimage modified (merged-module option).Description File/Rebuild AdvantagesThe advantage of the description file/rebuild method is that the changesare permanent and reproducible. Modifications apply to all subsequentmodule rebuilds and to all merged-module groups built containing theupdated module. Both methods are documented in this section. These procedures areused with the field descriptions starting with the Module HeaderFields. For direct modification, use the EditMod LABELS data to170 OS-9 Device Descriptor and Configuration Module Reference
SCF Device Descriptorsnavigate the EditMod menus. The DESCRIPTION FILE MACRO dataidentifies the macro you need to define/modify in the configurationsources to rebuild the SCF device descriptor module.3Direct ModificationUse the Editmod utility and the following procedures to directly modifyfields in the existing SCF device descriptor module. The module canstand-alone or it can be part of a merged-module group. A boot image, for example, contains multiple modules. Both situations are covered inthis section. The field references later in this chapter contain adescription of each configurable field, its supported values, and thesequence of menu options required by EditMod to modify that field.More Info MoreInformation More Information More Information More-6-For More InformationRefer to the Utilities Reference for a full description of EditMod’scapabilities.OS-9 Device Descriptor and Configuration Module Reference 171
