This program developed by the AAFP will focus onimproving care for patients with chronic disease.Pain Management Clinic (C1-MFHC) (FPS-MFHC)Pain Management has become an increasingly difficult area to manage.Both the C1 and FPS resident will work with Dr. Dan Weiner to learn howto adequately address chronic pain issues. They will have 2-4 of theircontinuity patients attend the clinic to increase patient’s understanding ofthe disease process and develop a variety of modalities on how to dealwith chronic painPractice Management (C1- Private Office)This rotation will be incorporated into the C1 rotation with two half days duringthe PGY2 year and two half days during the PGY3 year. It will take place atRedding Family Medical Group (RFMG) with coordination by Doug McMullin,MD. The experience will primarily focus on Practice Management, withopportunities to meet with the various office staff and physicians to learn how toprovide patient care efficiently and effectively in a private practice setting. <strong>Resident</strong>swill learn the following skills:• Effective billing• Designing a budget and managing overhead costs• Collections for various insurance carriers• Assessing practice staffing needs• Understanding of office manager function• Personnel management and labor issues• Employment law and procedures• Integrating new technologies into one’s practice• Determining value of patient care in one’s community• Assessing customer satisfaction• Measuring clinical quality• Tort liability and risk management• Office scheduling systems• Use of computers in practice• Alternative practice modelsRenal Clinic (C2 – MFHC):This clinic will improve the care of patients with renal disease by consulting renalspecialist William DeVlaming, MD. Renal Clinic will involve chart review ofMFHC patients using the clinic classroom and will not involve actually seeingpatients.
