admission (e.g., circumstances may make assigning the Peds call resident a medicineadmit at 6:45 am). In the event of a disagreement, the upper level resident’s decision isthe one that applies. Residents may subsequently discuss the issues with the ChiefResidents and/or the Program Director, but after the care is rendered and the crisis isover.Changes to the written call scheduleAll resident parties involved must agree upon changes. The resident originally assigned the callremains ultimately responsible for coverage. All changes must to be reported the residencyoffice. This is the responsibility of the resident originally assigned the call. In the event a residentis unable to take an assigned call day due to an acute illness, a family emergency, etc., thatresident is responsible for contacting the chief resident and the residency office. The chiefresident will assist them with arranging coverage. Changing call cannot interfere with coverageof previously scheduled hours in the family health center or specialty clinics during the post-callperiod. If the jeopardy call resident takes call, he/she should immediately notify the residentoffice and any post call clinics that may be affected. (i.e. MFHC, community preceptors, etc.)Jeopardy call:Jeopardy call is scheduled as a separate roster. Residents assigned to jeopardy call must beavailable by beeper to cover in the event of illness or emergency that prevents the on callresident from working. They should remain available to work on a half-hour notice whencontacted by the chief resident or acting chief. A jeopardy call is defined as any call that aresident is unable to perform within 24 hours of the start of the call regardless of the reason. Ifthe jeopardy call resident takes call, he/she should immediately notify the resident office and anypost call clinics that may be affected. (i.e. MFHC, community preceptors, etc.) If a jeopardyresident is unable to do a call and knows this >24 hours from the start of the call, it is thatresident's responsibility to find a replacement. A "time for time" trade policy for jeopardy call isin effect. Thus, if the jeopardy call person is called in to do a call, the resident who called in sickwill repay the call later in the year. This reimbursement call is to be arranged between the tworesidents involved. If they can't agree, the chief resident will assign the call in a future callschedule. If the jeopardy call person is unable to perform a jeopardy call (for any reason) itremains the jeopardy call person's responsibility to find a replacement. Extended sick leave is tobe dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Call in those instances will generally be redistributedthroughout the residency without payback.Page 113 of 153MASTER SCHEDULE:The Master Schedule of rotations for all residents and 13 rotations is extremely complex.
