ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATIONDIRECTOR OF ATHLETICSDARIN S. WILSONIn February of 2003, Darin Wilson was named the Director of Athletics at Union College.Since becoming the school’s Director of Athletics, Wilson has begun improving the college’sathletic facilities such as a new press boxes at the football and softball facilities, the installation ofsynthetic sports turf at Burch/Nau Field, remodeling of athletic training facilities in Robsion Arena aswell as several other projects.Union has enjoyed unprecedented success on and off the fi eld of play during Wilson’s tenure.Since taking the helm, the Union athletic department has won 10 Applachian Athletic Conferenceregular-season and tournament championships, three Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conferencechampionships and three NAIA Region XII championships. Additionally, 16 Bulldog and Lady Bulldogsteams have participated in national championship tournaments and events.In the classroom, Union has had 27 NAIA Scholar-Athletes and two CoSIDA Academic All-AmeriaTeam members since 2003.In addition, Wilson has revitalized and revived once-dormant athletic programs. Cross countryand men’s tennis were reinstated as sponsored sports in 2004-05, while women’s tennis, men’s andwomen’s track and fi eld and men’s and women’s swimming were brought back during 2005-06 academic year.Prior to accepting the post, Wilson served as the head baseball coach, sitting at the helm of the Bulldogs for fi ve seasons (1999-2003).Under Wilson’s leadership, the Bulldog baseball team experienced great success, going 161-106-1 in fi ve years. In 2001, Wilson led Union to athen-team record 41 games as compared to 18 losses and a 20-4 league mark as Wilson was named the Mid-South Conference Coach of theYear.The Versailles, Ky., native originally attended the University of Kentucky to play baseball, but transferred to Union prior to the 1994 season.In his three years as a Bulldog player, Wilson batted .333 with 17 home runs and 88 runs batted in. His best season came as a junior in 1995,when Wilson batted a career-high .406 with eight home runs and 43 RBI, earning him All-Conference First Team honors. As a senior, Wilson ashe was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year.Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree from Union in 1996, and he graduated cum laude. He then made the transition from player to coachby joining the Bulldog baseball staff as an assistant coach.Wilson and his wife, Patti, reside in Barbourville. The couple also has one son, Drew, and one daughter, Mara.www.ucbulldogs.comDIRECTOR OF COMPLIANCE/ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICSLARRY INKSTERDr. Larry Inkster wears and has worn many hats during his 30 years of service at Union College. Hewas not only the head coach for a couple of programs, but Inkster also has served as the College’sathletic director three times. Currently, he serves as the Associate Athletic Director, the Directorof Compliance and Faculty Athletic Representative.Inkster served as the women’s golf program’s head coach during its fi rst six years, leading the LadyBulldogs to back-to-back NAIA National Tournament Championship berths in 2003 and 2004. In2002, Inkster was named the Mid-South Conference Women’s Golf Coach of the Year as the LadyBulldogs won both the regular-season and tournament championships.Inkster’s sports experience has not been limited to just golf for he has been a coach for threeother Union College programs since the mid-1970s. From 1976-88, he coached the Bulldog baseballteam and earned KIAC Coach of the Year honors in 1977, 1978 and 1983. Also, in 1978, Inkster washonored by being named the NAIA Baseball District Coach of the Year. From 1979-82, Inkster wasthe men’s head soccer coach and was recognized as the KIAC Soccer Coach of the Year in 1979.Also, Inkster was an assistant coach for men’s basketball team from 1976-79.In October of 2003, Inkster was inducted into the Union College Athletic Hall of Fame.In addition, Inkster is a Professor of Wellness and Human Performance and currently serves as the chairperson of the Department of Wellness,Human Performance and Recreation.He received his bachelor’s degree from Union in 1972 and his Master’s of Arts degree from Union in1973. In 1982, he received his Master’s of Science from Eastern Kentucky University and earned his Ed D. from the University of Kentucky in1991.27
