For Reference Only Local Authority By-Laws 1 of 2Semporna District Council (Streets and Public Places) By-laws 1981<strong>LOCAL</strong> <strong>GOVERNMENT</strong> <strong>ORDINANCE</strong> <strong>1961</strong>(<strong>No</strong>. <strong>11</strong> OF <strong>1961</strong>)SEMPORNA DISTRICT COUNCIL(STREETS AND PUBLIC PLACES) BY-LAWS 1981(G.N.L 12 of 1982)In exercise of the powers conferred upon it by section 50 of the Local Government Ordinance <strong>1961</strong>, theSemporna District Council has made the following by-laws:1. Citation, application and commencement.These by-laws may be cited as the Semporna District Council (Streets and Public Places) By-laws 1981, shallapply to the township of Semporna and shall come into operation on the 1st day of January 1982.2. Interpretation.In these By-laws, “streets and public places” mean streets and public places under the control of or vested in theCouncil.3. Removal of barriers, etc..<strong>No</strong> person not authorised by the Council shall take down, alter or remove any barrier, signs or lights placed by theCouncil across or in any street.4. Blind, etc., not to encroach street or public places.<strong>No</strong> person shall hang any blind, awning or other structure from any building such as to encroach on to any streetor public place.5. Trees not to be damaged or removed.<strong>No</strong> person shall damage or remove any tree or vegetation growing along any street or in any public place.6. Maintenance of walls, etc..The owner or occupier of any premises shall keep his wall, fence, post or gate bordering on any street or publicplace in a good state of repair.7. Parking of vehicles.<strong>No</strong> person shall, unless permitted by the Council park his vehicle in any public place, and no person shall repair ormend any vehicle in any street or public place.8. Penalty.Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of these By-laws shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liableto a fine of two hundred and fifty ringgit.
