Peugeot’s firstcrossover takesmulti-taskingto a new levelThe first crossover vehicle from Peugeot has got to bethe ultimate ‘buy-one-get-two-free’ proposition andtakes multi-tasking to an entirely new level.5

ENVIRONMENTAL SENSITIVITYSUV-like aesthetics may not suggest sensitivity, but when it comes tocarbon emissions the 3008 sets new standards in environmental sensitivity. The versions of the 3008 available locally take emissions down into the146g – 167g range; still impressive in comparison with what went before.‘SUV’ and ‘eco-friendly’ rarely appeared in the same sentence until the 3008came along. That’s changed for good. Peugeot’s cutting-edge technology hascarved out a new benchmark just ahead of the introduction of carbon taxes.BEAUTIFULLY PRACTICALGenerous interior space is a reminder that this is also a versatile MPV.Fold the front passenger and rear seats flat and you create a loading bay.If that’s not easy and convenient enough, you can make use of a three-wayheight adjustment to facilitate ease of load management. Those who carrymore around with them than three pieces of luggage, a cool-box and golfclubs should note that the 3008’s load length is 2.62m and the width is1,030m. This gives you a maximum cargo volume of 1 604 litres once theseats are folded flat. Under-floor cubby holes and an intelligent parcelshelf are integrated into the design, enabling you to stow valuablesout of sight.INDEPENDENCESafety features like this give added assurance when you find yourself inout-of-the-way places. The 3008 is a declaration of independence. It lets youtake on and be in total control of a wide variety of driving conditions. The innovative 3008 Grip Control model combines electronic stability controland a traction control system to optimise the performance of the frontwheels during off-road driving. Five different settings enable the driver tomatch the traction with the ground conditions whether you’re on sand, in themud, in the wet or find the going good. The electric handbrake and hill assistmake hill-starts easier whatever mode or mood you’re in. The grille has beenvertically stretched to complement the vehicle’s taller, more rugged look. The go-most-anywhere aesthetics are reinforced at the rear by wide sculptedflanks that suggest added grip and sturdy self-reliance. Off-road styling in theform of inserts for the sills and lower panels is available on some models.Of course, the kids and your significant other qualify as the most preciouscargo of the lot. When they’re on board, you’ll be reassured by the factthat the 3008 has a Euro NCAP five-star rating (the world’s most rigorousendorsement of vehicle safety). It also achieved four stars for childoccupant safety. The 3008’s potentially life-saving features read like a healthand occupational safety checklist. The front-end is fitted with three impactabsorption structures and Bogé impact absorbers. Six air-bags help cushionany sudden impact.FINAL WORDThe 3008 blurs many distinctions, but one thing is clear. Peugeothas come up with a crossover winner that’s in a class of its own.No, better make that three classes.8

And while manyare giving you a full run-down of the specs, while they all speak performance, it’s thefeel of the thing that is really hitting theheadlines:... all it really takes is a topless evening cruise“down a country lane with an affable companion torealise that there are times when a convertible canbe motoring nirvana. Therein lies the appeal of thefolding hardtop – the ability to transform from aregular coupé to a full-blown convertible in a20-second flex of the forefinger.”Wayne Batty - Top Carabout its power...“It made my heart beat a little faster when I experienced the great roadholding of the308 CC, powered by a refined 1.6-litre turbo-charged engine. Maximum power output is110kW at 5 800rpm, while the accompanying torque maximum of 240Nm is already on tapfrom 1 400rpm. The result is a highly flexible engine, ensuring agile responses and incisivein-gear acceleration.”Helene Griffiths - Umhlanga GlobeWhat they’re sayingabout its drive...“The 308 is easily Peugeot’sbest CC to date. As aconvertible it ticks thewind-in-the-hair thing...while still offering the safetyand elemental protection ofa hardtop on demand.”Wayne Batty - Top Car11about its styling...“For a start, the CC is 72mm lower and124mm longer than the 308 hatch, withPeugeot’s heritage strongly evident in theawfully neat side profile view.”Lance Branquinho - Wheels 24“With the roof retracted, cabin airflow managementis outstanding – enablingsome rather hefty straightlinespeeds without sendingobjects into air-wash animationor drowning out passengeraudibility.”Lance Branquinho - Wheels 24And in conclusion...“The 308 CC is not only a chic, luxuriously appointed and surprisinglyspacious coupé – but is easilytransformed into a glamorous andelegant cabriolet.”Ian Little - Tygerburger

Age is a number; youth a choice and the new-look 207 isguaranteed to guide you in the right direction. Ask Peugeotthe targeted age group and they say “the young and young atheart”. Fair enough, over-35s appreciate a little room for manoeuvreon issues like this. Sufficient to say, the revitalised 207 is lookinggood and has all the pep you’ll ever need. Look at the options …207 UrbanThe entry-level 207 Urban with its Euro 5-compliant 1 360ccfour-cylinder engine offers three- and five-door variants. The list of companies Peugeot has had the good fortune and chosen to partner within the past year, reads like ‘the who’s who of brands’ – and speaks volumes about theunique and versatile animal our SA Lion has grown into over the past years. We’re ingoodcompanySpanish writer,Miguel de Cervantes, said“tell me what companyyou keep and I’ll tellyou what you are.”She’s going places and noone’s going to stop her...she’s ambitious, driven andempowered to live on herterms – and her energyfor life is matched only byher natural chic style andclass. Our affinity with thesophisticated, urban andupwardly mobile femalemarket was behind ourpartnering with Kotex – ina multimedia campaign topromote both the stylish207 CC and Kotex as a verymodern brand of today.Mall activations whichincluded the car on displaywere held nationally invarious centres includingCresta, Gateway,Cavendish Square andmany more. We took itonto campus too, at WITS,UJ Kingsway, TUT Pretoria,UCT, Stellenbosch, DUTSteve Biko and UKZNDurban universities.Golf was also the theme ofour link-up with SavannaLight and other partners. To help spread the love ofgolf amongst South Africanwomen, special golf clinicswere held – training youngprofessional women aged18 to 35.The Peugeot woman of today is alsosussed, valuing her own health and thatof those around her. The M-Net BreastCancer Awareness campaign expressedthis sentiment beautifully – and Peugeotjoined many other partners to supportthe drive to increase knowledge of breastcancer. We have helped donate fundsand bras to those in need and a numberof events were held to raise awareness– including golf days in Pretoria, CapeTown and Durban.Thank youto all ourpartners -you’ve beenexceptionalcompany!20

www.peugeot.co.zaFOLLOW THE ROAD, NOT THE CROWD.S&S/444318/e/10721

Affordable is not supposedto be fun and fLashy …but don , t tell the 107Yet Peugeot has come up with a 107 upgrade that is affordablein terms of showroom pricing and highly affordable at thepetrol pump, yet drives a five-door city car with five-speedmanual gearbox right through every adjective previously associatedwith tightwad motoring.Affordable is not supposedto mean stylish, upbeat, fun,eye-catching, nippy, pac y andeven a bit flashy. It , s fun…In short, the Peugeot 107 is FUN. It’s got pizzazz and attitude. It’s a little urban urchin of a car; a three-cylinder Artful Dodgerthat puts the smile back into metro motoring. The upgrade in thesecond half of 2009 involved a restyled front design – creatinga wide-mouthed grin which might explain this baby’s cheekypersonality. And it , s GREENIt’s something of a surprise then, that the 107 comes with aconscience attached. At least, its green credentials are extremelyimpressive. If it wasn’t so impudent, the 107 would be politicallycorrect.Recent tests show its 1.0-litre petrol engine emits only 106g of CO 2per kilometre; a handy improvement on the previous 109g at a timewhen carbon taxes are being bandied about. This makes the new 107one of the least polluting vehicles in its market segment. And, like allnew cars from Peugeot, it’s up to 95% recyclable.Energy efficienc y is pretty good, tooAcross a mix of driving conditions, it consumes just 4.5 litres of petrolper 100km. Miserliness like this enables Peugeot to equip this modelwith just a 35-litre fuel tank. Yet the 107 creates a startling amountof zip, generating a respectable 50kW at 6 100 revs, with 93Nm oftorque at 3 600 revs.A rigid little chassis contributes to a good ride and handling is superbas you bound around town or hit the bends on the open road. Strictlyspeaking, Peugeot’s Cornering Stability Control is a safety feature, but on occasion it also adds to your fun.Parking is not something you’re supposed to do with panache, butdon’t tell the 107 that. In a tight spot, this car comes out tops. It isone of the most compact four-seaters on the South African market, with a total length of 3.43m and a width of 1.63m, and is capable ofa ‘star turn’ with its tight turning circle of only 9.46m. Power-steeringis standard.22

However, a relatively large wheelbase of 2 340mm helps to create afeeling of interior space. The sense of roominess is enhanced by bigwindows and a steeply raked windscreen.Electrically operated front windows are standard. Air-conditioning isstandard as well. To look cool as well as be cool, the 107 featuresa colour-coordinated interior with two-tone fascia panel, grey doorpanels and special seat trim.Looks are good, but safety is greatThe 107 is fitted with ABS with electronic brake force distribution. In the event of a front-on collision, two front air bags protect thedriver and passenger. If you wish to fit a rear-facing child seat, thepassenger air bag can be de-activated. In the event of side-impact,two front side air bags protect the chest of the driver and frontpassenger. The 107 comes with 14-inch alloy wheels and you get afull-size spare. For luggage and shopping, you have 139 litres ofstorage capacity – about right for the image-conscious younger setlooking for enhanced style per mile. This is a cheeky little car, packing in more features and more funthan you’d think at first glance. All in all, the 107 is a surprise packetthat doesn’t cost you a packet …23

France came out of recession in June – and how!The upsurge in national performance was signalledon a very special day, June 14, by Peugeot’s one-twovictory at Le Mans. The win put the smile back on French faces and the upbeatmood was reinforced a few weeks later when official figuresshowed that the national economy really did turn the cornerin June. The tricolour has been flying high ever since. Victory by aFrench manufacturer at the motoring event most closely associatedwith France became the catalyst for national celebration. For France – and Peugeot – it’s like lifting the African Cup of Nationsor a five-nil test series win against Australia. It’s BIG. The 24 Heuresdu Mans is the world’s oldest enduro sports-car race. The race hasbeen run since 1923. To do it, the French close down the town ofLe Mans and turn the local roads into a race circuit. The tricoloursignals the start of the race and the skies are traditionally bathedin red, white and blue – courtesy of a fly-past of jets trailing thenational colours. The format is simple: three drivers take turns at the wheel oftheir car, one day’s driving and a 24-hour clock ticking down tozero as they complete as many laps as possible. Public roads imposethe world’s toughest reliability test. Win and you deserve as muchchampagne as you can drink, though a lot gets wasted. The traditionof spraying champagne on anyone within podium range began atLe Mans; in 1967 to be exact.French fervour, hallowed traditions and the sheer delight at winningsuch a bone-bashing, axle-crunching, tyre-scorching event explainthe explosion of joy when Peugeot notched up their remarkableone-two.25

Peugeot’s No. 9 car (driven by Marc Gene, David Brabham andAlexander Wurz) completed 382 laps, one more than the No. 8 car(driven by the all-French trio of Sebastien Bourdais, Franck Montagnyand Stephane Sarrazin). The works team was powered to victory bythe 908’s V12 HDi FAP diesel engine – and the victory is further proofthat Peugeot’s diesel technology is tops for performance, efficiencyand durability.Technology on and off the trackThese turbo-powered sports-cars are prototypes, but the underlyingtechnology has been built into Peugeot’s diesel options for severalyears. The HDi (high pressure, diesel injection) increases torque forimproved acceleration while the FAP particulate filter system cutsCO 2emissions by 20%. You get more power for less pollution.Engine economy is legendary (a 308 HDi recently entered theGuinness Book of Records for fuel efficiency). At Le Mans, the French celebrated the HDi FAP* victory by wavingred, white and blue, but the engine’s energy and emission efficiencyis so impressive they could have added green as well. Perhapsnext year …*Locally, HDi FAP is available on the 207, 308 and 3008 models.2626

The range was recently strengthened by the introductionof the intermediate Expert Tepee, creating seamless progression fromthe compact Partner and Expert Panel Van to the sizeable Boxer.Best of breedAll models share an impressive pedigree. After all, Peugeot producedits first commercial vehicles back in 1895. They also possess afeature that can be crucial for business buyers. They are built forease of customisation. With a payload of up to1 900kg and a maximum interior width of 1.87m, the Boxer takes onmost jobs; yet the range’s smallest Boxer can be entrusted to a driverwith just an 08 licence.Hardworking versatilityThe newcomer to the commercial family, the Expert Tepee is alsosuited to multiple roles, whether you’re looking for a people-mover, aparcel-carrier or a versatile workhorse that takes on whatever comesnext. Several seating configurations are possible, explaining itsgrowing popularity as a comfortable shuttle capable of transferringup to eight passengers to hotels, airports and other destinations. The Expert Tepee is no ordinary combi. It is practical, yet built forcomfort, with standard features such as power steering and electricfront windows.Sliding doors at the side and double doors at therear create easy access. Foldable seats and multiple storage spacesgive families, professionals and commercial operations the roomand options for almost any contingency. ABS with EBD, driver andpassenger airbags and cruise control mean you’re not just goodto go, you’re safe as well. The 2.0 HDi engine features a variablegeometryturbo and generates 88kW of power at 4 000 rpm with300Nm torque at 2 000 rpm.The panel van that could ...Sister vehicle to the Tepee is the hard-working Expert panel van. With a payload of 1 200kg and volume capacity of 5m³, thisversatile performer was the winner of the 2008 Van of the YearAward. Another firm favourite in the commercial arena is thePartner, a robust option that may look like a panel van, but feelslike a passenger vehicle. The 1.6-litre HDi engine delivers 66kW at4000 rpm and 215Nm of torque at 1 750 rpm. Power goes handin hand with economy at just 5.8 litres per 100km across a mix ofdriving conditions. With a 850kg payload and volume capacity of3.3m³, you know you have a workhorse at the back of you, yet theadjustable steering wheel, power steering, electric front windows andthe quality feel of the seats suggest you’re settling in for a drive ina passenger car. But, then, versatility comes as standard across theentire Peugeot commercial vehicle range …Peace of mindAs could be expected, driver peace of mind is more than taken careof too. drivinggreenissuesPeugeot celebratesits long-standing andpassionate relationshipwith golf at exciting andglamorous golf getawaysfor the privileged few.It could be the precision of the game – the same keen-eyed focus, stealth and control thatmakes us good drivers. Perhaps it’s the state-of-the-art, beautifully-crafted clubs that fit sobeautifully into our boots. Or maybe it’s the expensive elegance and sartorial style of the attire –softly cashmered, Pringled and pristine. So you can imagine that it takes little persuasion for us to organise a golfing event – and thoughwe say so ourselves, we know how to do it in style. In line with the International Peugeotsponsorship, Peugeot South Africa has been supporting golf – and in 2009 this took the form ofwonderful golf weekend getaways. A chance to play on some of the best courses, relax awayfrom home and enjoy some exclusive comfort and luxury. In our fold we have many affluentcustomers of high profile and standing – to whom we really wanted to say a special thank you ina way that would truly mean something to them.Unforgettable experiences were created by offering a selection of getaways to:Fancourt, George on 19 - 22 JuneRoyal Swazi, Swaziland on 3 - 6 JulyEuphoria, Polokwane on 7 - 9 AugustRiviera, Vaal on 31 Oct - 2 NovemberWhat better way to showcase some of our vehicles? The weekends were a huge success –enjoyed enormously by our guests – just the right amount of stiff competition and plenty ofgood sportsmanship and fun. As Arthur Daley said: “Golf is like a love affair. If you don’t take itseriously, it’s no fun; if you do take it seriously, it breaks your heart.”Mark Twain described it as ‘agood walk spoiled’. It makesgrown men cry and has turnedgood honest women into sportswidows... while the rest of thefemale population has realisedthey’ve been missing out on agood thing and are taking ontheir male counterparts. It’sgolf of course – and man, do wePeugeot people love it...31
