<strong>Tuition</strong> <strong>Fee</strong> <strong>Payment</strong> <strong>Policy</strong>All students are required to pay an annual tuition fee, which includes charges for tuition (scheduledlectures, practical and laboratory classes, tutorials), teaching and supervision, testing and examinationas well as use of lecture halls, rooms, laboratories, clinics and equipment throughout the academicyear. The tuition fee also includes dental materials for those studying in the Faculty of Dentistry.<strong>Tuition</strong> fee is payable for each year, or semester (see below) in which the student is enrolled.1. <strong>Tuition</strong> <strong>Fee</strong> <strong>Payment</strong> <strong>Policy</strong>1.1. <strong>Payment</strong> Period<strong>Tuition</strong> fee payment schedule for all academic years is stipulated by the Study Contract that eachstudent signs with the University, which constitutes an integral part of the Study Contract andremains effective as long as the Study Contract is effective. <strong>Tuition</strong> fee payment must be made inaccordance with the schedule set in the Study Contract.Citizens of the EU/EEA and Switzerland have the option of paying the tuition fee either for one studyyear or one semester. Citizens of countries outside of the EU/EEA and Switzerland have to make thepayment for a full study year.1.2. <strong>Payment</strong> Deadline<strong>Tuition</strong> fee payment deadlines are outlined in the schedule of the Study Contract, and must be paidby the indicated deadline.1.3. <strong>Tuition</strong> <strong>Fee</strong> <strong>Payment</strong> Term ExtensionIn order to receive an extension for the term of payment of the tuition fee, students should fill-inApplication for the REVIEW OF THE TUITION FEE PAYMENT TERM and submit it to the RSUInternational Student Department.1.4. Sanctions for Non-<strong>Payment</strong> of <strong>Fee</strong>sShould the student fail to make the tuition fee payment by the indicated deadline, a fine will becalculated as stipulated in the Study Contract.1.5. <strong>Payment</strong> OptionsThe University accepts direct bank transfers only, preferably in euros (EUR); however, othercurrencies are accepted as well, e.g., LVL, USD, GBP, NOK, SEK.1


When sending payments by direct bank transfer to the University’s bank account, ensure yourname, surname, and semester is quoted on the transfer to ensure that the funds can be allocatedcorrectly on arrival. Bank Charges and Currency Exchange DifferencesAll bank charges including exchange rate shortfalls are the liability of the student. The recipient –Rīga Stradiņš University, must receive the tuition fee payment in full amount, as stipulated by theStudy Contract.1.9. No ContractThe payment of the tuition fee (or any of its amounts) does not itself constitute an agreementbetween the University and the respective payer. Only upon acceptance by the University, andrequest for enrolment by the student shall a contract come into being.1.10. <strong>Tuition</strong> <strong>Fee</strong> <strong>Payment</strong> by Third Parties (including family members)The University accepts payments for student fees from third parties, including family members.However, the liability for paying fees will always remain with the student – payment of fees will notconstitute a binding contract between the University and third party. Third party shall have no rightto demand a refund from the University of any payments made on behalf of a student.When the tuition fee is paid by third parties, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all of theinformation, as set out in Paragraph 1.7, is included in the payment made by the third party.1.11. Students Receiving <strong>Fee</strong> Support from SponsorsIf a sponsor, e.g., a government agency or any other organisation, is paying the tuition fee, thestudent is liable for ensuring that the payment is made to the University in time and in full amount.1.12. <strong>Tuition</strong> <strong>Fee</strong> <strong>Payment</strong> upon Resuming of Studies2


Should a student fail a course, but wish to repeat the failed subject(s) and continue with studies,he/she must fill in Application for ADDITIONAL AND / OR REPEATED SUBJECT CLASSES and otherreasons and submit it to the RSU International Student Department. An individual calculation for thesubject(s) to be repeated will be made as soon as the application is submitted. This calculation alongwith the tuition fee for the remaining study years will be included in the new Study Contract for theremaining study period, which will become effective upon resumption of studies.Students should note that the individual calculation and payment schedule upon signing of the newStudy Contract is made in accordance with the most recently confirmed tuition fee.1.13. Dropping CoursesStudents should note that they may drop a course only until the beginning of each semester; nochanges can be made once the semester is in progress, and therefore no refund of the tuition fee ispossible. Details of study plan changes must be approved by the Dean of the International StudentDepartment no later than on the last day before the beginning of the respective semester.1.14. <strong>Tuition</strong> <strong>Fee</strong> Refund upon Termination of Studies1.14.1. Should a student terminate studies at RSU, he/she is authorised to receive a partialrefund of the tuition fee paid by him/her; however, no more than in the amountstipulated in the Study Contract. Each refundable sum is calculated individually anddepends on how long the student studied at RSU in the respective semester, when thestudies were terminated.1.14.2. In order to receive the tuition fee refund, students must fill-in TUITION FEE REFUNDapplication form and submit it to the RSU International Student Department.NB! Please provide exact bank information in the application form, so that a refund canbe made. Failure to do so will delay the refund severely or prevent it altogether.1.15. Bond Money Refund upon Termination of StudiesIn order to receive the bond money refund, students must fill-in BOND MONEY REFUNDapplication form and submit it to the RSU International Student Department. Additionally,students must also submit QUESTIONNAIRE with a confirmation from RSU Library that thestudent has returned all books to the Library.NB! Please provide exact bank information in the application form, so that a refund can be made.Failure to do so will delay the refund severely or prevent it altogether. Bond money refund isusually returned within 2 months after graduation or termination of studies.2. <strong>Tuition</strong> <strong>Fee</strong> Support and Scholarships2.1. Financial Support and AdviceStudents who are experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties in paying their tuition fees shouldseek help at the earliest opportunity and contact the fees office in the first instance. The Universitywill be sympathetic and assist where it can.2.2. Financial SupportFinancial support for studies at RSU is available to the nationals of the following countries andorganisations:3
