A fisherman wouldrather be on the riverbank than marching the streets of London. A book-loverwould prefer to be with his treasured tomes. This desire to “celebrate” one’slifestyle in public betrays a fundamental restlessness and unhappiness withit, if not a stifled shame. Without the money and artificial excitement, thehomosexual movement would soon lose much of its support.
