LETTER FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS
Our year of Faculty Women’s Club activities is underway and I hope you were able to join us for the
Fall Welcome Luncheon. Not only did we renew friendships and meet new members, but our guest
speaker, Dr. Sandra Bond Chapman, gave us the lowdown on brain health and thinking smarter.
A smart thing to do is look through the newsletter and note all the fun, interesting, and varied activities
FWC offers to its members. On October 10th , the Freewheelers will take a day trip to Texas ranch
country; and if you haven’t been to the famous Dallas Arboretum you must come along November 1st
to experience the astounding Chihuly exhibit. Check all this and more on our new website.

for FWC members and newcomers. This year we're invited
to visit two SECRET hideaways: to Chula Vista Ranch on October
10 (see below) & to Lisa Rofsky's downtown loft following
a visit to Ruibal's Texas-sized growing nursery, next March
21, 2013.

Day Tripping, Texas Style
Our wonderful member Tere Stool has invited Freewheelers
to CHULA VISTA RANCH ~
Chula Vista is 90 minutes north on Hwy 35. This will be a
most-of-the-day excursion (back in Dallas by 5 pm), so we
hope you will make plans early to spend a full, freewheeling
day with us. We'll use Tere's ranch as home-base for good
eating (brunch & lunch) and for soaking in / viewing &/or hiking
ranch country. Mini-tours include Davis & Blevins Gallery,
featuring Cowgirl Hall-of-Fame artist Donna Howell-
Sickles (sjmainstreetgallery.com), wine tasting / tour, and
more. Those who can stay the whole day will return to Dallas
by way of Muenster, with stops at a German grocery, a fruit
winery, & other cute shops.

FILM GROUP - The monthly movie matinees are planned for
the third Thursday of the month (usually). A few days before,
you will be notified of the film, location, time, and lunch plans. If
you are interested, have movie ideas, or have questions, contact

AM BOOK GROUP - first Wednesday of every month at 9:30 AM
for coffee and a book discussion at 10:00 AM.
PM BOOK GROUP - the third Wednesday of each month, ten
months of the year. Snacks at 7:00 PM, with discussion of the book at
7:30 PM.

News from the Parkland WISH LIST Committee
Thank you to all members who have -- or will be -- donating
men’s and women’s socks and underwear (M-XL) as
we go to press with this newsletter! We will continue to
focus on these two most-needed items at all FWC events,
including AM book group, through December. At the same
time, we would like to note that all of the items on Parkland's
Wish List (see below or check the FWC website) are
needed on an ongoing basis and are always most welcome.
Look for Gloria Rege, Mary Greene, Karen Westergaard,
or Cindy Salkowski at our events for collection of your
donations. Or phone/email us if you would prefer to drop
items off at one of our homes in Park Cities. Your donations
are a comfort to patients at a time they need it most!
Don't forget to recycle your recent magazines to the Aston
Clinics. You may drop them off at the Guest Services desk
there (let them know you are an FWC member) or give
your magazines to Mary, Gloria, Karen, or Cindy, and we
will deliver them for you.
Your financial donations are used to buy $1,000 of board
books of facial expressions for the nurseries - especially
for preemies who need to see faces to develop their brains.

MOMS AND TOTS - TODDLER TIME
Toddler Time is forming up for
the new year. We are interested
in everyone with children below
the age of 3.
Our first activity will be October 6th
at the Nasher Sculpture garden. It is
the first Saturday of the month (free admission!).
They also have many fun activities so bring the entire
family. We (Ryan & I) will be at the entrance for
15 minutes starting at 9:50am with a sign so look
for us.
A trip to the Dallas Arboretum is planned for the
first weekend of November.

Our Loan Closet is a great success! International researchers
and their families here for 12 - 24 months may borrow items to
help set up housekeeping. Let's show that we care by donating
small appliances such as coffee makers, toasters, vacuums, and
other gently used household items, folding chairs and tables,
clock radios, children's toys, bicycles, etc. Cribs and car seats
must meet current standards. You may also donate
funds along with your dues. Email Linda Fitz at

"Didn't I already send in my dues?"
This is a question many people ask after receiving the 2nd of our 4 annual newsletters. Our 2nd mailing includes the latest newsletter
as well as another yellow membership insert, even if you already sent me your membership dues. The reason for this is that
our 1st and 2nd mailings go to all female faculty and wives of male faculty at UTSW. Since this is a large group of approx. 2000
people, our mailing labels are printed by Human Resources at UTSW. For our 3rd and 4th mailings, the labels are printed by me
and go only to those who have sent me their membership dues. If you have any questions about whether I have received your
membership check, please either call or email me; I'd be happy to check for you. If you do accidentally send me 2 checks, I will
