A password is needed in order toview the videos. I will announce the password in class. In addition, you will be required to submit yourname online when you access the videos. You can alsoaccess the videos through my website.Withdrawals/Audits: A student will not be permitted to withdraw or audit after October 29. If anaudit student has more than 4 absences based on the attendance policy below, then a grade of audit willnot be given. Instead, a grade of WF will be given. For GPA purposes, a WF counts the same as an F.Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Each class missed counts as 1 absence. During class, anattendance sheet will be passed around for you to sign. If you arrive more than 5 minutes late to a class, itwill count as ½ an absence, provided you put a check mark in the appropriate box on the attendance sheet.Otherwise, it will count as 1 full absence. If you leave a class early, it will count as ½ an absence, provided you put a check mark in the appropriate box on the attendance sheet and you notify me at thebeginning of the class. Otherwise, it will count as 1 full absence. However, if you arrive late or leaveearly on a day that we review for a test, you will not be able to get ½ an absence (it will count as 1 fullabsence). If you have more than 4 absences for the entire semester, then a grade of “F” may begiven. In addition, BC requires instructors to submit the names of students who stop attending class. Anystudent who misses 4 consecutive classes will be considered a student who has stopped attending classand will receive a grade of WF for the course, unless he/she withdrew his/herself from the course on orbefore October 29. For GPA purposes, a WF counts the same as an F. Also, by state law, any studentattempting a course for the 3rd time cannot be given a grade of WF; instead, a grade of F must be given.Page 1 of 2

Homework: Refer to the homework assignment sheet to see what problems you are responsible for. Irecommend that you purchase the Student’s Solutions Manual. If you are a weak student in math, then Ihighly recommend you do many of the unassigned even-numbered problems. Please see me if you wouldlike to get a copy of the answers to the even-numbered problems. Due to the amount of material that thestate requires in this course, coupled with the fact that I like to go over numerous examples whenintroducing a new concept, there will not be much time, if any at all, to go over homework. If we do havetime, questions will be answered at the end of class. Consequently, if you are having trouble with thehomework, I recommend that you take advantage of my office hours and/or the math lab. The followingis my policy on the collection of homework.• Homework will be collected often so I can get a feel for who is doing it.• Homework will not count as part of your grade. However, if your final average is borderline, then Imay consider whether or not you did the homework.• Homework should be done on loose sheets of paper or in a separate notebook. Do not do thehomework in the notebook containing your class notes.• If I collect homework, you will get it back by the end of class.• When you get your homework back, it will contain one of the following three grades: ,−, or X. A“” means that you did all of the homework. A “−” means that you did at least half of thehomework. An “X” means that you did less than half of the homework. Students who did not do anyof the homework will also receive an “X”.Additional Resources for Help: The math lab, located on the second floor of the library, providesfree tutoring. Mathzone.com provides additional practice problems (with step by step solutions) and videosthat correspond to the textbook. Smarthinking.com, available when you login to your BC account, providesfree 24/7 live online tutoring.Grading: There will be 5 tests and a comprehensive final exam. The lowest of your 5 test grades willbe dropped. The remaining 4 test grades will count as 70% of your grade. The final exam will count as30% of your grade. You cannot drop the final exam grade. There are NO MAKE-UPS. If you miss atest, that test will count as the one to be dropped. However, if you know in advance that you will bemissing a test, you can make arrangements with me to take that test early (regardless of the reason). Thefollowing scale will be used to determine your grade for the course. Please keep in mind that your finalaverage will be rounded to the nearest whole number. Therefore, for example, 79.5 rounds to 80 and 79.4rounds to 79.Final AverageGrade90-100 A80-89 B70-79 C60-69 D0-59 FCalculators: Calculators are not permitted on any test including the final exam.Leaving Class Early: It is unacceptable conduct to leave class early without notifying your instructor.Cell Phones: During class, make sure your cell phone is turned off or in vibrate mode. Do not have your cellphone on your desk or your lap. If you are seen texting during class, then you may be marked absent for that class.Cheating Policy: Cheating on tests and other graded exercises will not be tolerated in this class. Ifyou are discovered to have cheated, you will receive a grade of F for the entire course.Page 2 of 2
