THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF VERNON 2008 Annual Report VERNON NORTH OKANAGAN RCMP SERVICES Vernon / North Okanagan Detachment consist of an ¡ntegration of what previously was included in 6 distinct policing jurisdictions. These were Armstrong (including the Township of Spallumcheen), Enderby (including the Spallumcheen First Nations Lands), Falkland, Lumby, Vernon Rural (including Okanagan First Nations lands) and City of Vernon (including Municipal Contract for the Municipality of Coldstream). The geographical land mass of the integrated Detachment is 7,912 square kilometers. This excludes the City of Vernon & Municipality of Coldstream, as well as the extens¡ve port¡ons of the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) A Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) areas existing in the Enderby & Falkland policing jurisdictions. The following statements reflect Vernon North Okanagan Detachment's vision for the Detachment and local communities: The North Okanagan policing jurisdictions are safe and caring communities. The members of the RCMP in conjunction with the members of the communities have worked together to bring about their shared vision and to ensure that the communities are safe and attractive to children, youth, seniors, families, businesses, and visitors. There is fair and unbiased treatment of all people. Communication between different sectors of the communities and the RCMP is frequent, open and honest. These relationships are characterized by a high degree of dignity, trust and mutual respect. Our youth is our most valuable community asset for the future and remains the focus for many of our strategies and programs. Through ongoing involvement and education, allcommunity members have become more accountable and are integral in maintaining a safe and caring community. The RCMP works in consultation with community members to identify solutions to various community problems. Crime has been reduced significantly and the communities enjoy some of the lowest crime rates of any comparatively-sized commun¡t¡es in British Columbia. Values The Vernon North Okanagan Detachment embraces the nationalvalues and commitments to our employees and communities. The Detachment's work is guided by these core values and by the commitment statements to our communities and employees.
