VERNON FIRE RESCUE SERVICES
Municipal fire services are evolving in many areas of British Columbia, and in 2008, Vernon Fire - Rescue
Services was no except¡on. Ongoing service delivery in the areas of fire suppression, fire prevention,
emergency medical response and specialty services meant the community continued to be well served
in the area of public safety. Strategic Planning that began in the fall of 2007 resulted in complete review
of service delivery within the municipality in 2008, and a number of initiatives resulted as Vernon Fire -
Rescue keeps pace with provincial, nat¡onal and international industry practices.
ln 2008 the Downtown Station provided the following services to all areas of the City:
o Fire Suppression
o Fire Prevention
o Public Education
o Fire Dispatch
o First Medical Responder (FMR)
. Emergency Preparedness and
Emergency Social Services
. Heavy Hydraulics (Jaws) for Motor
Vehicle lncidents (MVl)
¡ Hazardous Material Response, and
¡ Non-emergencyadm¡nistrativeservices.
Fire suppression in the area commonly known as Okanagan Landing continued to be prov¡ded under
contract. As a result of 2008 Business Planning, statistics and comparative analysis, as well as response
time mapping was produced, giving Vernon Fire - Rescue a snapshot of existing capabilities and
guidelines for future service improvements and response targets'
