ENGINEERING
Engineering Services is responsible for the implementat¡on of the municipal services and bylaws related
to infrastructure planning. We work very closely with many of the other departments to provide this
service.
The mandate of the Engineering Division is to hold paramount the safety, welfare and quality of life of
the public and the protection of the environment through fiscally responsible management of public
infrastructure.
ln 2008 the Planning, Development and Engineering Services Division (PDES)was restructured to create
a Planning and Building Division and an Engineering Division. This restructuring has eliminated the PDES
Manager and placed the Planning and Engineering Managers at the Senior Manager table thereby
permitting better representation from the two small but ¡mportant Divisions.
The Capital year saw the following significant improvements to our roads and util¡t¡es which were
managed by the Engineering department:
o 25 Avenue, 41 Street to 43 Street
. 32 Avenue, 27 Street to Pleasant Valley Road
o 39 Avenue,27 Streetto PleasantValley Road
¡ Tronson Road Phase I
o Ellison Parkway Path
Furthermore the Operations and Engineering Divisions worked together to construct a green lane pilot
project adjacent to Silver Star School. This project utilized a porous pavement design constructed of a
stabilizing geotextile system and structural gravel. The main benefit of this system over standard paving
or chip sealing is it does not require a stormwater system.
