That is whywe made quality and reliability top priorityin the selection and developmentof the system platform componentsas well as in the design of our systemsright from the beginning.Simple design principlesThe design of the TELEPERM XSsystem platform was guided by clearand comprehensible principles. Theseinclude in particular the strictly cyclicoperation of the software and thecommunication means, the absence ofprocess-controlled interrupts, and thehighly standardized, simple softwarestructure, assured by automatic codegeneration. The stringent observanceof these principles not only ensuresmaximum reliability but also makes thestructure and operation principles ofTELEPERM XS systems transparent toboth users and licensing authorities.Robust hardware componentsThe majority of the hardware componentsare series-produced, serviceprovenindustrial components speciallyqualifi cation-tested for use in safety I&Csystems. During the design of the componentsspecially developed forTELEPERM XS, we paid particularattention to structural simplicity andoutstanding robustness.Reliable softwareThe system software was developedin compliance with the quality anddesign requirements specifi ed in theapplicable international nuclear codesand standards. Thus, all stages in thedevelopment process were performed,documented, reviewed and releasedin accordance with the phase modelcalled for in these standards. The inhousetests and trials were backed upby independent inspections by externalexperts at all stages of development.The system software and the application-specific software are strictlyseparated. The process isstructured in phases and high performancetools support the related workflow.
