For example, ActionResearch in Conservation of Heritage (ARCH)has documented the heritage buildings inKolkata’s colonial Dalhousie Square, which ledthe World Monuments Fund (WMF) to put thearea on their watch-list of 100 most endangeredsites worldwide for 2004. ARCH is nowpreparing an application for a grant from WMFfor the purpose of developing and implementinga conservation strategy for DalhousieSquare in collaboration with other interestedorganisations in Kolkata. Similarly, DastkarAndhra has completed its documentation ofthe traditional designs of the cotton handloomweaving industry of Andhra Pradesh, and isconsidering how to build on what has beenaccomplished. Design documentation has beena short-term outcome; their longer termobjective is to take this process forward in away that facilitates the emergence of distinctiveregional design identities.8
