Vijayadasaru“Saagi baarayya Bhavarogada vaidyane” –Once he had gone to Tirupati during Brahmotsava, andwas doing dhyana. The time for Tathotsava arrived buthe could not go for the Rathotsava in time. The peoplestarted pulling the Chariot but it was not moving at all.Even elephants failed to pull the chariot forward. Atthat time Srinivasa entered one of the devotee’s bodyand told the public that one of the devotee has boundhim and that is why the chariot is not moving. Then thepeople were searching for that man, and they found inVijayadasaru and was brought in front of the Chariot.He composed a song starting “saagi barayya bhavarogada vaidyane” and the chariot started moving.Tamburi – Purandaradasaru gave him a tamburi in hisdream, but when he got up in the morning, he wassurprised to find that the tamburi was real. VijayadasaruKalluru Subbannacharyaru -He was a renowned Sudha Pandit. Alongwith hispanditya, he has some prejudice for Vijayadasaru, as hewas singing only Devaranamagalu without any SanskritGrantha. Once he was rendering Sudha Pravachana.Almost all the people from the place were invited exceptVijayadasaru, because of Kalluru Subbannacharya’sprejudiced opinion about the Dasaru. He had thoughtthe Dasaru and he devaranamas are nothingcomparable to Great Granthaas. Those who are not wellversed with Shastra Granthas were neglected.For Sudha Mangala naivedya, “Mandige bhojana” wasarranged, but the cook who had to do the Mandigenever turned up. Vijayadasaru when he learnt that thecook has not turned up, went to the cooking hall anddid the mandige for the entire people. After completingthe cooking, Vijayadasaru, went to listen to thepravachana of Kalluru Subbannachar. On seeingVijayadasaru, the anger in Subbannachar grown, and heteased that “you are an ordinary daasa, “koosi magadaasa”. You know only something about Kannadasahitya. What you can understand about SrimannyayaSudha?”. Dasaru felt very sad about the teasing byacharyaru. Dasaru called an innocent man who wassupplying water for the bhojana, (who was not evenable to speak properly), and by putting his hand on thatinnocent man, he asked him to do the anuvadha of theSudha, where Acharya had stopped. Vijayadasaruwhere Kalluru Subbannachar had stopped, that too inSanskrit. As soon as he removed his hand from thatman, that man went to normal status, and was anordinary man only. Watching the incident, KalluruSubbannacharya was shocked and went near VijayaDasaru to beg his pardon for his egotism and asked himto accept him as a shishya. Dasaru told his shishyaVenugopala Vittala Dasa to give ankitha to KalluruSubbannachar, and he was given the ankita“Vyasavittala”. With the ankitha prapthi, subbannacharprepared a stotra on Vijayadasaru, titled “Vijayarayarakavacha”, which starts like “smarisi badukiro, divyacharanakeragiro”….Jagannathadasaru & Vijayadasaru –Sri Srinivasacharyaru, son of Karnika Narasimhacharya,had studied under Sri Balaramacharyaru (Sri VaradendraThirtharu in his poorvashrama) and had a profoundknowledge of Madhwa Shastra. He had done 108 timessudha mangala. Because of his great panditya inSanskrit, he had least respect for Daasa parampare.Once Vijayadasaru had visited Srinivasacharyaru’s place.He had sent his shishya to invite Jagannatha Dasaru forTheerthaprasada. Srinivasachar agreed to come. Afterthe pooja is over, Vijayadasaru, sent his disciple to callSrinivasaacharyaru for the bhojana, Srinivasacharya toldthat he suffering from Stomach pain, and could notcome. Vijayadasaru did not say anything, said OK andhad his Theertha prasada. After this incident,immediately Srinivasacharya developed severe stomachwww.sumadhwaseva.com Page 5

Vijayadasarupain, which could not be controlled by any medicine. Hewas restless, not getting sleep at all, not able to eatanything. Day by day, the pain grew and it wasuntollerable. He went to Tirupathi, Mantralaya,Ghatakachala, everywhere in vain. Rayaru came in hisdream and asked him to meet Vijayadasaru only forremedy. So, he came back to Vijayadasaru and soughthis excuse for his ignoring Dasaru. Vijayadasaruimmediately directed Gopaladasaru to give Ayurdana of40 years. Gopaladasaru readily agreed and gave 40years of his life to Srinivasacharyaru. ThenSrinivasacharya got ankitha in Chandrabhaga river by SriPurandaradasaru as “Jagannatha vittala”, and he neverturned back, he went on to write Harikathamruthasara,and many many devotional songs, suladees, ugabogaasin Kannada and Sanskrit.Suladi Dasaru -As he has written so many suladees, he is popularlycalled as “Suladi Dasaru”. So he gave Mohanadasa’s wife somemantrakshate, and told her to do the smarana ofSriharivayu in time of difficulty. Vijayadasaru wentto Theertha yatre. In themean time, Vijayadasaru went to Yamaloka directlyand had a chat with Yamadharmaraja, where it wasconvinced that the life term of Mohanadasaru hadnot been completed, and by mistake they hadtaken the jeeva of Mohanadasaru instead ofanother person.d) Once, Baagi Keshavaraya Desai, who had onceserved Vijayadasaru longback, by offering foodduring Dhanurmasa, was facing his death. His wife,when came to know that Vijayadasaru was stayingin the Pranadevaru’s temple, in Cheekalaparavi,approached him. Immediately Vijayadasarucomposed 15 ugabogaas, starting “RudrantargataNarasimha mrutyu nivari”, etc., and gave him threeyears of his life to Baagi Keshavaraya. Came toknow about the ayurdana by Vijayadasaru,Keshavaraya’s mother also offered her 10 years,which Vijayadasaru consented and madearrangements for Ayurdana of total 13 years toBaagi Keshavaraya (3 of dasaru + 10 ofKeshavaraya’s mother).e) Ayurdaana to Jagannathadasaru through GopalaDasaru – When Jagannathadasaru had severestomach problem, and was in the last stage of hiswww.sumadhwaseva.com Page 8

Vijayadasarulife, Vijayadasaru ordered Gopaladasaru to give him40 years of his life, which enabledJagannathadasaru to have more life, and he wroteHarikathamruthasara, and many other granthas.Vijayadasaru and Tirupati Timmappa –Vijayadasaru had great devotion to Tirupati Timmappaand wrote many songs on Timmappa.
