August 11, 2008Dear Parent or Guardian:Welcome to another semester! I am excited and privileged to have the opportunity to teach your sonor daughter.I am sending this letter to let you know more about your child's teacher and class. Please sign andreturn the back page of the course syllabus acknowledging you have read all information.This will count as a homework grade.I am Ms. N. <strong>Jenkins</strong>. I will be teaching Algebra II and for the 2008-2009 school term. As a teacher, Iwill assist all students in obtaining success in their classes, as well as prepare students for the worldin which they live. In order for your child to be successful, we must work together. I am asking you tohelp by checking homework on an average of 4 times per week, checking your child’s notebookperiodically, asking daily about objectives covered in class, and assisting with making sure objectivesare met.I am available for extra help after school. All that I require is that your child set up an appointmentwith me.Please feel free to call the school at 678-875-1241 if you should need to speak with me. RulerEXPECTATIONS:1) Students are expected to attend class regularly and on time. Students are counted as tardy ifthey are not in the class when the bell rings. This guideline will be strictly enforced inadherence to the school’s tardy policy.2) Students are expected to bring their textbook, three-ring notebook, loose-leaf paper, calculator,and pencils to class daily. ASSIGNMENTS NOT COMPLETED IN PENCIL WILL NOT BEACCEPTED.3) Students are expected to participate in class by taking notes, asking questions, having classdiscussions, completing assignments, demonstrating examples at the board, and followingclassroom policies and procedures.4) Students are expected to finish all in-class assignments in a timely manner, showing all worknecessary to complete assigned problems. CREDIT WILL NOT BE GIVEN for assignmentsthat do not show necessary work.5) Students are expected to complete all homework assignments by the next class day unlessspecified otherwise. Homework is checked on a regular basis.6) Students are expected to ask questions if a topic is not understood and may seek individualattention after making an appointment.POLICIES:It is the policy of this teacher to give only one warning regarding misconduct in class. Subsequentinstances of misconduct will lead to a parent phone call, detention, and referral. Referrals to the office areimmediate for major violations or habitual violations.i) The class period begins as soon as the student enters the classroom. Students are expectedto adhere to instructional procedures and policies immediately.ii) Students are expected to bring proper materials to class daily. Students are not permitted toretrieve materials from their lockers during class.iii) Students will be treated with respect in class. Students will not be allowed to disrespect theteacher, each other, or themselves in class. This includes but is not limited to inappropriategestures, sounds, comments, facial expressions, and clothing.iv) Students are to remain attentive at all times. Sleeping in class is NOT acceptable. Privateconversation during instruction will not be tolerated.


v) Students are expected to eat a nourishing meal prior to entering class. Eating, drinking, orchewing gum during class is not permitted.vi) Cheating will result in an immediate grade of zero with a call to the parent/guardian and areferral to administration.vii) Students will adhere to the school’s regular dress code. (See Student Handbook)viii) Cell phones and other electronic devices are permitted on the premises but NOTALLOWED in the classroom. Any person caught using an unauthorizedelectronic device during school hours will have their devise confiscated. (Refer toStudent Handbook)ATTENDANCE/MAKE -UP WORK POLICY: Due to the nature of the classroom, excessive absences mayseriously affect performance in class and jeopardize your chances of successfully passing the class. It is yourresponsibility to make up work and turn it in. When you are absent, you should get your missed assignment(s)from classmates or teacher. For each day absent, you have one (1) school day to complete make-up work withdays not to exceed 10 days. No credit will be given for late work unless special arrangements are made.
