IBSSA official publication 2006For whom only perfect is acceptableRenshi István KELEMEN (7 dan), one of the foundingmembers of IBSSA, has large international reputation. Whenwe sat down to talk after a dan exam, I asked him aboutfighting with a stick and knife. I wanted to know how he beatthe world and how he could disable a steel-muscled meatcolossus in just moments. My questions focused on fight, andI soon had to realise that we were talking about beliefs andancient philosophy. What was really interesting is that eventhen we remained in our basic subject, martial arts.István Kelemen founded the first private dojo club inBudapest from a military fighting club at the beginningof the 1980’s. It became popular very fast. Young peoplequeued to get into the club and become members.Many young people learnt about thebasis of martial arts and later becameknown in this kind of sports or inother sports. Even wrestling Olympicchampions visited the club.István Kelemen learnt and taught.He visited the most reputable jitsuworkshops of the world and learnthis actions from the best. In themeantime, as a civilian, he alsotaught the elite group of the policeforce for hand-to-hand fighting. Hewas a stuntman, became a high-qualitysecurity expert and foundedTestôr Kft. in the summer of 1989.The company has been securing facilitiesand performed special personal protection tasksever since. While building his own business, naturallyhe did not neglect jiu jitsu either, because it was alsopart of business. He was the president of theHungarian federation for a long time, then he resignedand since then he has only been engaged in the professionalissues and techniques. It is mainly due to hishuge contribution that Hungarian jiu jitsu fighters arementioned together with the Finns. It is also the resultof his impact that in Hungary approximately 600adults train regularly in 30 clubs, and 300-400 childrencompete in a children’s competition. He is the chairmanof the Hungarian Dan College (this position isalways held by the Hungarian citizen with the highestdegree achieved).‘I teach and exercise martial arts and not ballet’JJ styles compete with each other all over theworld. Mr. Kelemen supports the full contact branch,with completely individual solutions. He believes ifwe know the physical side of the fight, for victory wemust know the best technique of all styles and wehave to find the right method for beating attacks, i.e.,defence. He thinks force is most important, andbelieves in 100 % technique. In his opinion if a blowis not accurate, it is bad. However, those believing ina different style and approach still accept and considergood a 99 per cent blow, remaining with theexpression of percentages. Kelemen sees himselfproven with the practice of the professional worldwhere his philosophy is applied.The terror combating organisationsalso operate with the sameapproach. This is what he taught tothe members of the Russian statesecurity organisation as well as inIsrael.Many people are engaged, andperform well, in this branch ofmartial arts. Kelemen thinksthat among the good ones thewinner will not think in panelsand apart from physical trainingwill also conduct intellectualtrainings. He believes that martialis ‘medication in motion’.He can list examples indicating that knowledgeof archaic and sacral literature helps a lot in theperfection of movements. Intellectual and physicalforces make a system work. And then heasks me a moral question too: if we manage toachieve perfect movement and man is unbeatable,what guarantees that this knowledge willonly serve good? He finds his answer in beliefwhen he says that spiritual peace can beachieved through the purity of the soul. If this isthe motivating factor, the movement will beimplemented well too, guaranteeing that forcesare not used for bad purposes. This is how wehave got from suffocating and kicking to believing.Would you ever have thought it?26
IBSSA official publication 2006New training centres in Europe and New ZealandFolda International Bodyguard Training Centre opened two new offices and training centreson top of its existing eight facilities last year. International bodyguard training now takes placein New Zealand - Mount Manganui, and in Sweden, Malmö, too. The future plans of FoldaInternational Ltd. include opening of further training centres in the Ukraine, Serbia andBelgium. The long-term plans also contain centres on the South American continent.International jitsu training camp on Lake BalatonA traditional international training campwas organised on Lake Balaton, theHungarian sea, with the participation of 30foreign and approximately 100 Hungarianjitsukas. The Hungarian Ju Jitsu Federation hasinvited the traditionally strong trainers’ staff forthe one-week training camp. As the Martial ArtsMagazine, a special periodical published in theHungarian language also stated, during the trainingcamp, sensei István Kelemen (7 dan), chairmanof the dan section of the Hungarian Ju JitsuFederation, tested a sportsman in an exam infront of the leading trainers of the Hungarian dansection and world association. Sándor Füvesi,instructor of Hódmezôvásárhely, passed theexam successfully (3 dan).During the camp, the following masters andguests passed on their knowledge to participants:Vlado Schmidt (Germany), ju jitsu (10 dan),Giacomo Spartaco Bertoletti (Italy),WJJKO president, ju jitsu (8 dan WJJKO, 9 dan JJIF),Dr. Rony Kluger (Israel, 8 dan), goju kai traditionalOkinawa karate master,Auvo Niiniketo (7 dan), president of the Finnish JuJitsu Federation and founder of hokutoryu ju jitsu,Günter Painter (Austria), ju jitsu (5 dan), tantojutsu and kobudo master,Eyal Cohen (Israel) WJJKO (4 dan).At the end of the camp, the leadership of theworld association and the Hungarian dan sectionawarded István Kelemen master, founder of theHungarian Ju Jitsu Federation and chairman ofthe dan section the 7th dan Renshi degree, andAttila Kovács, president of the Hungarian Ju JitsuFederation, the 5th dan Shihan degree.Harcmûvészek MagazinMr. Sándor Füvesi during the Dan EximinationParticipiants of the training camp27
