Secure Drilling SM ServicesGateway Wireline-RetrievableNonreturn Valve (WR-NRV)Weatherford’s Gateway WR-NRV for Secure Drilling procedures enhances safetyand provides unique recovery options for greater efficiency and reduced risk.Placed in the drillstring, this flapper-style, drill-float valve prevents pressure fromentering the string above it. The high-pressure valve enhances safety by allowingpressure above the valve in the drillstring to be bled off when making and breakingconnections. Efficiency is improved and risk is reduced because, unlike a fixedfloatvalve, the WR-NRV can be changed out or removed on wireline, eliminatingthe need to trip the pipe.Multiple valves are typically positioned at intervals of about 500 ft (150 m) inthe string to enable incremental bleed back of any existing pressure and laterincremental repressurization. This procedure eliminates the time associatedwith bleeding pressure off the entire drillstring, as required with fixed valvespositioned in or near the bottomhole assembly (BHA).In contrast to fixed-float valves that are made up as part of the drillstring, theGateway WR-NRV makes up to an industry standard X-lock assembly that islatched into a drillstring profile sub. Using this common industry connectionfacilitates quick recovery by wireline, which enables valve replacement withoutkilling the well. It also makes it possible for fishing operations to reach the BHA,which is prevented with fixed-valve configurations.Applications• Underbalanced drilling (UBD) operations• Managed pressure drilling (MPD) operations• Air drilling (AD) operationsweatherford.com 1 © 2009–2010 Weatherford. Secure Drilling SM ServicesGateway Wireline-RetrievableNonreturn Valve (WR-NRV)Features, Advantages and Benefits• Easy access on wireline means the Gateway WR-NRV can be changed orremoved without tripping the drillstring or killing the well. Eliminating the tripsrequired to retrieve a fixed valve saves valuable rig time.• Designed for high-pressure applications, the valve ensures pressure-controlintegrity, even with extremely high-pressured hydrocarbons.• A large bore ID minimizes friction when pumping gas and fluid into the drillstringfor maximum drilling performance. The valve only restricts flow when fluids orgas travel up the drillstring.• The large bore design does not preclude the pumping of balls or darts, whichprovides options not available with fixed-float valves.SpecificationsGateway WR-NVR Dimensional SchematicSize(in./mm)AOverallLength(in./mm)BMaximumOD(in./mm)CMinimumID(in./mm)RunningTool(in./mm)PullingTool(in./mm)PressureRating(psi/MPa)2.3158.6717.69449.332.2857.911.3835.052.50 WX63.5 WX2.50 GS63.5 GS10,00068.92.8171.3718.14460.762.7269.091.7544.453.00 WX76.2 WX3.00 GS76.2 GS10,00068.9ACBweatherford.com 2 © 2009-2010 Weatherford.
