<strong>HRM</strong> practices of the public and private sector industrialenterprises of Bangladesh.B<strong>as</strong>ed on literature review, objectives of the study and observed presentscenario of <strong>HRM</strong> practices in Bangladesh, we developed the followinghypotheses for the study.Hypothesis 1: H 0 = The overall status of adoption of new <strong>HRM</strong> practices in thepublic sector industrial enterprises of Bangladesh is notsatisfactory.Hypothesis 2: H 0 = The overall status of adoption of new <strong>HRM</strong> practices in theprivate sector industrial enterprises of Bangladesh is notsatisfactory.Hypothesis 3: H 0 = There is no difference between the public and the privatesector industrial enterprises of Bangladesh with respect tothe overall adoption of new <strong>HRM</strong> practices.SampleA sampling frame of 155 public and private sector industrial enterprises w<strong>as</strong>prepared comprising of 64 public sector industrial enterprises (running) under thesix state-owned industrial corporations (GOB, Ministry of Finance, 2007) such <strong>as</strong>BCIC, BSEC, BSFIDC, BFIDC, BJMC, and BTMC, and 91 private sectorindustrial enterprises (CSE, Annual Report, 2007) listed under Chittagong StockExchange (CSE). Various established approaches are used in determiningsample size such <strong>as</strong> using a census in c<strong>as</strong>e of small population, imitating <strong>as</strong>ample size of analogous studies, using published tables, and using formul<strong>as</strong> tocalculate a sample size (Israel, 2003). For the present study, the published tablemethod w<strong>as</strong> used in the determination of sample size. Israel (2003) developedthe table by using the formula of Yamane (1967), which is presented in Table 1.Table 1.
