Everyone was excitedto learn about the concept. This projecthas now completed six years of operation in<strong>Meerut</strong> City. The service not only helped thechildren who were in need but also created achild friendly environment in the city. FACTS ON CHILDMARRIAGEIf present trends continue,142 million girls will marryover the next decade.That's 38,000 girls marriedevery day for the next 10years.Girls living in poor householdsare almost twice aslikely to marry before 18as girls in higher incomehouseholds.No one religious affiliationwas associated with childmarriage, according to a2007 ICRW study. Rather,a variety of religions areassociated with child marriagein countries throughoutthe world.FACTS ON CHILDNUTRITIONClose to 42.5 per cent ofIndian children suffer frommalnutrition which meansthat every second child isnot getting enough food.On the other hand 11% ofpopulation in India is overnourished, consumingextra or wrong calories.A study by the Save the<strong>Child</strong>ren shows that India’srank in child developmentis even lower than most ofthe poor countries inworld.State of Madhya Pradeshhas the highest number ofmalnutrition cases (55%),whereas Kerala has thelowest (27%). Because ofthe gender discriminationin India, girls suffer morethan boys.NEWLY BORN GIVENSHELTEROn 7/2/2013 about 7:00 am <strong>Meerut</strong>CHILDLINE received informationabout a newly born orphan girl childfound at the gate of Ramanuj VaishyaAnathalya. Information wasgiven by the incharge of the anathalyawho requested <strong>Meerut</strong>CHILDLINE to help as they do nothave any facilities for newly borns.<strong>Meerut</strong> CHILDLINE immediately tookthe custody of the child & got hermedical checkup of done. Whendoctors declared the child medicallyfit, then the child was produced toCWC <strong>Meerut</strong>. CWC <strong>Meerut</strong> orderedRampur based shelter home to keepthe child and she was sent there on8/2/2013.14yr GIRL SAVED FROM CHILD MARRIAGE2 YEAR OLD RESCUEDOn 12/03/2013 Saurabh Suman calledCHILDLINE & gave some informationabout a lady named Rani living nearPWD colony of the city. He informedthe lady having a child whom sheused to beat very harshly. He urgedCHILDLINE to intervene in the matter.After getting the information CHILD-LINE team visited and inquired aboutthe matter. The information given bythe callers was found true and thatthe child did not belong to Rani. Afterconfirming the information, CHILD-LINE contacted the nearby police stationand with the help of the police,rescued the child. Report of the matterwas also registered in P.S. Lalkurti<strong>Meerut</strong> by <strong>Meerut</strong> CHILDLINE. Thechild is in safe custody now.With due efforts of <strong>Meerut</strong> CHILDLINE a 14 years minor girl has been saved from forcedchild marriage in <strong>Meerut</strong>. On 2/2/2013 a caller contacted <strong>Meerut</strong> CHILDLINE & gave theinformation about a child marriage to take place. After getting the information<strong>Meerut</strong> CHILDLINE verified the information by visiting the location given by the caller.Further, it approached the local police and administration, with help of the police departmentmarriage was stopped from happening.MEDICAL SUPPORT PROVIDEDA person named Anuj Kumar informed CHILDLINE on <strong>1098</strong> that his child is sufferingseverely ill. His economic condition is very critical and so he wanted CHILDLINE’s helpfor treatment of his child. After getting information a team member met the child andtook him to a doctor in Medical hospital. CHILDLINE got the child operated from thedoctor who is now in good health.


REHABILITATIONCHILDLINE received a callfom Mumbai helpline CCEMs. Sheela Sawant. She toldabout Moh. Fariq Ahmed(Father of Ms. Sanya) from<strong>Meerut</strong> calling them abouthis daughter who was missingsince two days. Sheasked <strong>Meerut</strong> CHILLDINE toverify the care and help themissing child. Later, <strong>Meerut</strong>CHILDLINE got a call fromMoh. Fariq Ahmed father. Heasked for help from CHILD-LINE and told that he hadalready been taking CHILD-INE’s help for her daughterwho was found missing twotimes earlier also. Further on23.04.12 Cons. KuwerpalSingh from Lisari Gate policestation contacted <strong>Meerut</strong>CHILDLINE. He told thatthey have found a child whowas not telling her nameand address. CHILDLINEtook the child in her custodyand identified her as Sanyaafter regular counseling.She was then reunited withher family. Since the childwas deaf and dumb, herfather was suggested to giveher some identification (suchas a tattoo) so that she canis not found missing in nearfuture.MEDICAL SUPPORTPROVIDEDOn 05-05-12, CHILDLINE gota news about a girl who wasinjured and wanted the teamto help her. The child wastaken to the district hospitalfor medication. The concerneddoctor got a X-Rayfor her injured hand. Withthe report it was confirmedthat her hand bone was brokenand that plaster wasrequired to be done on herhand for at least two weeks.All the necessary treatmentand medicines were given tothe child. Her hand is fit fornow.SHELTER PROVIDEDWasim Khan with a six monthchild, approached <strong>Meerut</strong>CHILDLINE. He told that thechild was found on the footpath.The child was ill andthere was no identification ofher family. The child was immediatelyproduced to theCWC office. Seeing child’sserious condition, C.W.C orderedher to be immediatelyadmitted in L.L.R.M hospital.After full treatment and medicationthe child was sent to aRampur based child home.FACTS ON CRIMEAGAINST CHIL-DRENthe conviction rate at theNational level for crimesagainst children stood at36.6%.The highest crime rate(12.1) was reported byDelhi as compared toNational average (1.8).Punjab (35) and Rajasthan(16) together have accountedfor 53.2% (51 outof 96) of cases of feticidereported in the country.FACTS ON CHILDABUSEApproximately five children dieeach day because of childabuse. 1 out of 3 girls and 1 out of 5boys will be sexually abusedbefore they reach 18.<strong>Child</strong> marriages are legal inseveral countries. For example,in Yemen, more than a quarterof girls are married before theage of 15. As recently as 2010, a12-year-old child bride inYemen died from internalbleeding following intercourse.Additionally, it is not uncommonin Saudi Arabia for a 12-year-old girl to be married to an80-year-old man.Most child sex abuse offendersare 10 or more years older thanthe victim.More than half of child molestersare under the age of 35.
