Level 5 <strong>MAT</strong>LAB Array Data Element <strong>Format</strong>sExampleFigure 1-14 illustrates the <strong>MAT</strong>-file data element format for this <strong>MAT</strong>LABstructure:X.w = [1];X.y = [2];X.z = [3];XX =w: 1y: 2z: 3In the figure, note:• The data element contains eight subelements: the three commonsubelements (Array Flags, Dimensions and Array Name) and fivestructure-specific subelements (Field Name Length, Field Names, and threeField subelements).• The value of the Number of Bytes field in the data element tag includes allthe subelements, but not the eight bytes of the tag itself.• The Field Names subelement allocates 32 bytes of storage for each fieldname. A NULL terminator indicates the end of each field name.• Each Field subelement is an mi<strong>MAT</strong>RIX data type. In the example, each fieldcontains a numeric array. For more information about the format of theseelements, see “Numeric Array and Character Array Data Element <strong>Format</strong>s”on page 1-15.• Each of the numeric arrays contain zero-length Array Name subelements.The Field Names subelement contains the names of the numeric arrays.1-31
