Thissubelement is common to all array types. For more information, see“Dimensions Array Subelement” on page 1-17.Array Name SubelementThis subelement specifies the name assigned to the structure. This subelementis common to all array types. For more information, see “Array NameSubelement” on page 1-18.Field Name Length SubelementThis subelement specifies the maximum length of a Field Name. <strong>MAT</strong>LAB setsthis limit to 32 (31 characters and a NULL terminator). In a <strong>MAT</strong>-file created by<strong>MAT</strong>LAB, this subelement always uses the compressed data element format.Field Names SubelementThis subelement specifies the name of each field in the structure as a series of8-bit (miINT8) character arrays. The value of the Field Name Lengthsubelement determines the length of each field name array (32 bytes). Fieldnames must be NULL-terminated.Fields SubelementThis subelement contains the value stored in a field. These values are<strong>MAT</strong>LAB arrays, represented using the mi<strong>MAT</strong>RIX format specific to the arraytype: numeric array, sparse array, cell, object or other structure. See theappropriate section of this document for details about the <strong>MAT</strong>-file format ofeach of these array type. <strong>MAT</strong>LAB reads and writes these fields incolumn-major order.1-30
