4.2.2 Income of the respondentsIncome is an important indicator in determining who travels and who does nottravel. The responses show that about 20 percent ofthe respondents are withoutan income. Most of those who did earn an income fell within the low incomegroups. This is not surprising because the statistics have shown that KwaZulu-Natalis characterised by a high illiteracy rate and a low rate of employment. This wasshown by sixteen percent ofthe respondents who earned below RI 501 a month andfifteen percent who earned below R2 501 a month.
