106TRAVEL$ENSEthe defaults. In some cases the business aircraft passenger is still working in theoffice when an airline passenger may be beginning the trip the afternoon andevening before a morning meeting. Alternatiely, over a multi-leg trip thebusiness aircraft may permit a return a day or two earlier and thus addadditional working time. The only place where the extra business hours before and after thecomparable airline trip is considered is in the Airline Baseline comparison. When this time falls during business hours it is considered 100 percentproductive. This is not simply an issue of the cost of travel time but the cost oftime between travel methods, comparing in an equitable way what otherwisewould be happening during each hour of the day during the entire trip cycle. Ofcourse this number could be negative in the event the airline passenger returnsearlier or leaves later during business hours, although this rarely is the case.True Cost of Productive Hours SavedTrue Cost of Business Hours Saved is the number of productive hours savedper passenger multiplied by the true individual value of time (time valuationmultiplier applied), summed across all legs and passengers. Note that costs perhour vary greatly between passengers, particularly since these are “true” costswith time value multipliers applies. This means that True Cost of ProductiveHours Saved is not directly related in a linear fashion to the Productive Hourssaved. You can have a negative true cost and a positive productive hours saved(e.g. CEO’s negative two hours saved, -$30K cost, 2 other passengers savedtwo hours each, value $10K cost)Non-Business Hours Away From Home SavedThis is the total amount (for all passengers) of time away from home saved bytraveling via the business aircraft versus the airlines. It is calculated individuallyfor each passenger and then totaled. You also may notice it is the result ofsimple math on Tab 4, subtracting the Non-Business Hours Away From Homefor Airline from the business aircraft totals.Business hours begin and end on an individual, per passenger basis as defined inthe passenger database. The Non-Business Hour Travel Time Valuation has noeffect on this tally. Non-Business Hours spent on the road still consumespersonal time – time away from home that otherwise would be spent withfamily or on other, non-business activities.Copyright © 1999, National Business Aviation Association, Inc.
