Healso praised <strong>th</strong>e TEPNG team whichmoderated <strong>th</strong>e elections. Heacknowledged <strong>th</strong>e historical fact <strong>th</strong>at itis <strong>th</strong>e first time in <strong>th</strong>e history of OML 58Consultative Committee for a chairmanto emerge unopposed. He pledged to doall wi<strong>th</strong>in his power to ensure <strong>th</strong>at <strong>th</strong>ecommittee worked for <strong>th</strong>e greater goodof <strong>th</strong>e OML 58 community.The chairman of <strong>th</strong>e occasion Mr.Iduoku. Izu, who is <strong>th</strong>e CommunityRelations Manager of Total E&P <strong>Nigeria</strong>Limited apologized for <strong>th</strong>e lateness ininaugurating <strong>th</strong>e committee, which hesaid was due to unforeseencircumstances. He however pledged<strong>th</strong>at <strong>th</strong>e company would facilitate <strong>th</strong>erealization of <strong>th</strong>e committee'sobjectives.He read out <strong>th</strong>e terms of reference of<strong>th</strong>e OML58 Consultative Committee.These include: Project monitoring andpreparing quarterly reports; Maintainpeace in <strong>th</strong>e community by ensuring<strong>th</strong>at <strong>th</strong>e company's objectives are wellunderstood; Distribution of Xmassouvenirs; Ensuring equitableBy Enefiok Akpanallocation community scholarships;Monitoring of skills acquisitionschemes; Participate in selection ofotal E&P <strong>Nigeria</strong> Limited (TEPNG)has won plaudits for signing aMemorandum of Understanding T(MoU) wi<strong>th</strong> its host communities in Egiland ahead of <strong>th</strong>e plannedcommencement of its OML 58 UpgradeProject.A former Councillor in ONELGA, Hon.Chidi Stephen who spoke to Neighboursin an exclusive chat said <strong>th</strong>e action wasan indication of commitment to <strong>th</strong>eterms of <strong>th</strong>e two-part MoU by TEPNG.He added <strong>th</strong>at <strong>th</strong>e various benefitscontained in <strong>th</strong>e two MOUs would go along way in improving <strong>th</strong>e social wellbeing of <strong>th</strong>e host families andcommunities and urged <strong>th</strong>e people toactively play <strong>th</strong>eir part towards <strong>th</strong>esuccessful implementation of <strong>th</strong>eagreements.Also, <strong>th</strong>e chief negotiator for <strong>th</strong>eaffected families, Mr. Ben Okirie,commended <strong>th</strong>e company for signingone of <strong>th</strong>e MoUs and facilitating <strong>th</strong>esigning of <strong>th</strong>e o<strong>th</strong>er by contracting firmsand <strong>th</strong>e o<strong>th</strong>er stakeholders. It includes capacity buildingtraining in industrial pipe-fitting, welding,scaffolding and o<strong>th</strong>er local contentcontract jobs.
