The Tinauguration followed the successfulholding of elections to the posts ofchairman and secretary of thecommittee.Elder Elijah Eze emerged unopposed aschairman while Goodluck Ibara won akeenly contested election to becomethe secretary of the committee.The new chairman in his acceptancespeech thanked his colleagues for theoverwhelming support given to him. Healso praised the TEPNG team whichmoderated the elections. Heacknowledged the historical fact that itis the first time in the history of OML 58Consultative Committee for a chairmanto emerge unopposed. He pledged to doall within his power to ensure that thecommittee worked for the greater goodof the OML 58 community.The chairman of the occasion Mr.Iduoku. Izu, who is the CommunityRelations Manager of Total E&P NigeriaLimited apologized for the lateness ininaugurating the committee, which hesaid was due to unforeseencircumstances. He however pledgedthat the company would facilitate therealization of the committee'sobjectives.He read out the terms of reference ofthe OML58 Consultative Committee.These include: Project monitoring andpreparing quarterly reports; Maintainpeace in the community by ensuringthat the company's objectives are wellunderstood; Distribution of Xmassouvenirs; Ensuring equitableBy Enefiok Akpanallocation community scholarships;Monitoring of skills acquisitionschemes; Participate in selection ofotal E&P Nigeria Limited (TEPNG)has won plaudits for signing aMemorandum of Understanding T(MoU) with its host communities in Egiland ahead of the plannedcommencement of its OML 58 UpgradeProject.A former Councillor in ONELGA, Hon.Chidi Stephen who spoke to Neighboursin an exclusive chat said the action wasan indication of commitment to theterms of the two-part MoU by TEPNG.He added that the various benefitscontained in the two MOUs would go along way in improving the social wellbeing of the host families andcommunities and urged the people toactively play their part towards thesuccessful implementation of theagreements.Also, the chief negotiator for theaffected families, Mr. Ben Okirie,commended the company for signingone of the MoUs and facilitating thesigning of the other by contracting firmsand the other stakeholders. It includes capacity buildingtraining in industrial pipe-fitting, welding,scaffolding and other local contentcontract jobs.
