The date of counselling and venue is such fixed that every qualified candidate has to be present forcounselling according to his AIR and category even if he/she does not receive the letter2. The choices given by the candidates, during this session are final and cannot be changed at all at a latertime. Candidates in their own interest must fill sufficiently large number of choices in the order ofpreference. As the allotment is based purely on All India Rank and choices given, candidates who fill lessnumber of choices may not get any seat in any institute.3 The date of counselling of a candidate can not be postponed or preponed for any reason what so ever &such request should not be made4. In case a candidate is not able to attend in person because of serious illness. he/she can authorise inwriting his/her parent or guardian to attend this session as per the schedule and fill in the required formson his/her behalf. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are institutions of national importance established through an Act ofParliament. These Institutes play a leading role in technological manpower development and have excellentresearch programmes. The admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes for all Indian and Foreign nationalsat these institutions are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (ITBHU), Varanasi is one of the oldest institutions devoted toeducation in various engineering disciplines. Indian School of Mines University (ISMU), Dhanbad, is the oldestinstitution of its kind in India. The admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes at these institutions are alsomade through JEE.All these institutions are known for providing quality education in science and technology and for research infrontier areas. The environment at these institutions is highly conducive for• building a solid foundation of knowledge,• development of personality, confidence building, self discipline and pursuit of excellence,• enhancement of creativity, motivation and drive.All of the above it help to prepare the students admitted to these institutions for successful professional andsocial lives. Today, alumni of these institutions occupy key positions in industry and academia in India andabroad. Each Institute has well-equipped, modern laboratories, state-of-the-art computer networks, well stockedlibrary and access to digital library resources. Teaching methods rely on direct personal contact between theteacher and the students and the use of traditional and modern instructional techniques. Students live in apleasant and intellectually stimulating environment with people having similar goals and aspirations and which isan exciting and unique experience.Credit-based academic programmes offer flexibility to students to progress at their own pace. A minimum levelof performance is necessary for satisfactory progress. The medium of instruction is English. These institutionsoffer courses leading to Bachelor’s degree in a number of engineering, technological and scientific disciplines.M.Sc. Integrated courses in pure and applied sciences and M.Tech. 1. CounsellingThe details of courses available in participating institutes are given in APPENDIX-7. Some institutesmay offer new courses not listed in the appendix. Information regarding these courses will beavailable at the time of counselling. The seats in various courses of the institutes (IITs, IT-BHU andISM Dhanbad) are allotted strictly on the basis of the AIR, category rank, and the choices of eachqualified student submitted either On-line or Off-line at the time of counselling.The details of the counselling and admission procedure will be published in the JEE websites and inthe Counselling Brochure.The results of JEE are also being used by other institutions for admissions to their courses /programmes. The names of these institutions will be published in the JEE website at a later date.Therefore JEE provides performance data for these institutions. Candidates should contact theseinstitutions directly for admission.2. Physical FitnessCandidates who qualify in JEE-2010 will have to submit a physical fitness certificate from aregistered medical practitioner in the prescribed format that will be made available at an appropriatetime. Candidates will be admitted only if they are physically fit for pursuing a course of study at theparticipating institutes.3. Requirements for Mining coursesThose who opt for Mining Engineering and Mining Machinery courses should make sure that theydo not have any form of colour blindness. They will be required to submit a certificate from aregistered medical practitioner to this effect at the time of counselling/admission. The standards ofvisual acuity with or without glasses will be adhered to strictly for candidates seeking admission toMining Engineering as per DGMS Circular 14 of 1972. Persons with one-eyed vision are notpermitted to work underground. Candidates with the above limitations are not allowed to opt foradmission to Mining Engineering or Mining Machinery Engineering.4. Female candidates for Mining coursesSection 46 (1) of the Mines Act, 1952 states that "No woman shall, notwithstanding anythingcontained in any other law, be employed (a) in any part of a mine which is below ground, (b) in anymine above ground except between the hours 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.". 5. Aptitude test for B. Arch. and B. Des.Candidates desirous of joining the B. Arch. (Architecture) and B. Des. (Design) courses will berequired to qualify in an aptitude test to be conducted at each counselling institute on June 10,2010.The test will consist of one paper of three hours duration from 09.00 AM to 12.00 noon.Candidates have to qualify in the Aptitude Test to become eligible for admission to either B. Arch. orB. Des. courses. Question papers for aptitude test for B. Arch. and B. Des. will be in English only.Candidates can register for this Aptitude test On-line after May 26, 201 0.They must appear for thetest on June 10, 2010 at the institutes where counselling will be held.FILLING OF VACANT SEATS BY THE INDIVIDUAL INSTITUTES AFTERADMISSION THROUGH COUNSELLING OF JEE-202010Each of the participating institutes will take measures to fill up the seats which fall vacant in therespective institutes. Candidates who are allotted seats through JEE-2010 should register at therespective institutes on the day of registration. Failing which the seat allotted to him/her will treatedas unfilled. Such unfilled seats will be first re-alloted with in the institutes among the candidateswho have already registered in the institutes on the basis of their Ranks in JEE-2010 (students will"slide up" within the institute to fill up the vacant seats). The seats which remain vancant in theinstitute after this process will be filled up by the institute by selecting candidates from the list ofthe institutes. Notifications to this effect will be made in websites of the respective institutes atappropriate time. Pleas note that all allocations will be based on the choices given by the candidatesat the time of counselling. Fees payable by SC/ST students, where different from those payable by others, are shown inparentheses ( ).Annual Fee for foreign students – US $ 2000 + other charges in Indian Rupees (for SAARCcountries)US $ 4000 + other charges in Indian Rupees (for other countries)* In addition to these, mess admission fee/mess deposit and medical insurance premium mayhave to be paid.# This includes Rs 1800/- towards charges for blazer and tie.## The fee is for B.Tech.
