SERVICE PROJECTSANNUAL REPORT 2011-2012was involved in initiatives to create new self-sustaining projects inLow Income Communities in Bangkok. The subcommittee found away to support the Lad Prao 34 Klong Bangsue community, whichwith water pumps. One hopes they will never be needed but that, ifthey are, the community will not suffer a similar level of devastation.Continuing with this theme, working with the Mercy Foundation, the properties in the Rama 9 slum area.This was a particularly busy year in this sector, with the completionof a major project from the CIMBT Foundation for an IT LearningCentre in the Huay Kwang community. This was funded by CIMBTin the 2010-11 year but undertaken this year. It is described in moredetail on its own page in this book.Vocational – THB 142,900Rtn Marcel Dubbelman’s sub-committee provides assistance foreducational purposes and supported two notable projects in theNorth and North East of Thailand: with the Ban Reng Khai Foundationsupporting the Burma Children Medical Fund to provide tuition for20 health workers at a programme for Community Health Workersin Tak.Library Kits – THB 216,00018 kits will have been sponsored or funded this year.Contributions of THB 550,000 were also made to various Floodrelief funds, including the club’s own fund.Finally, I would like to sincerely wish Rtn Jon Plate and his incomingteam, many of whom have signed up from this year’s committee fora further year, as much fun and success in Service Projects as wehave had the past year.Volker BetschWaterMarco CasanovaWaterChip BownessYouthGary WhiteSecretaryRotary Club of Bangkok South Yearbook 2012 27
