MESSAGE FROMTHE INCOMING PRESIDENTNICK PISALYAPUTRCBS President, 2012-2013Dear Fellow Rotarians and friends, welcomed into our Club by President Nart Liuchareonas the youngest member of the Club. I remember thenfeeling a little out of place, not quite knowing what theClub was all about despite having been thoroughlybriefed by my sponsor, former Rotarian Ian Fenwick. That said, even before becoming a member, I was truly contribute towards the betterment of those lessprivileged than ourselves … all the while having a greattime doing so. And, after several years of serving onthe Club’s Board, I continue to be impressed by theprofessionalism and higher standards in which we asa club conduct our affairs – the level of transparencyand responsibility towards our stakeholders is a lessonto which both the private and public sectors woulddo very well to aspire. I am convinced these traits, combined with unrivalled fellowship, have formed thesolid foundation that contributed greatly to our Club’scountless successes for the past 50 years and musttherefore continue for our Club to excel well into ournext half century. Now, 5 years later, with a teensy bit more Rotaryexperience under my ever expanding belt, yet not(and, some may say, unenviable) position of beinghonoured with the opportunity of leading our Club inits 51st year. As most, if not all, Past Presidents willundoubtedly agree, saying that one’s year as Presidentwill be a challenge is an understatement. Yet it is ayear that I somehow look forward to with enthusiasm, especially in the knowledge that I am backed by thesupport of my enthusiastic and passionate Boardthat I have grown to increasingly rely upon as 1st Julydraws ever nearer. I hope, as the year progresses, Ishall also have the support of all our members whosecontributions, advice, and criticisms, however harsh, are always welcomed and sought – as the new DistrictGovernor, our very own Al Mavro, wisely reminds us: themost important people in any club are the members. Icertainly share that sentiment wholeheartedly and hopeit will be apparent to all through the actions of my Boardand myself.I cannot end without thanking the 2011-12 Board fortheir hard work in ensuring that the Club had verysuccessfully navigated an extremely eventful year. Inparticular, I am deeply indebted to President MarkButters for his constant advice and reminders in a yearthat has seen me abroad more than not, and I lookforward to continuing working with him on my Boardin his capacity as the Immediate Past President. Also,I would be remiss not to thank a very special manand a dear, dear friend, Gary White, whose growlsof disapproval, threats of catastrophe of galacticproportions, outright screams and shouts of frustration– all done in the nicest possible manner with the bestof intentions, I am certain – have only accelerated mypreparedness for the challenge of the year ahead.Lastly, on very personal front, I would like to bothapologise to and thank my partner for having put upwith me and my passions for all these tumultuous years.Perhaps I can make it up to her somehow …soon.Yours In Rotary,Nick PisalyaputPresident 2012-2013Rotary Club of Bangkok South Yearbook 2012 13
