Estates Reservoir Replacement Draft Environmental Impact ReportCultural Resourcesprovisions of law concerning investigation of the circumstances, manner and causeof death, and the recommendations concerning treatment and disposition of thehuman remains have been made to the person responsible for the excavation, or tohis or her authorized representative, in the manner provided in Section 5097.98 ofthe Public Resources Code.The County Coroner, upon recognizing the remains as being of Native Americanorigin, is responsible to contact the Native American Heritage Commission within24 hours. The Commission has various powers and duties, including theappointment of a Most Likely Descendant to the Project. The Most LikelyDescendant, or in lieu of the Most Likely Descendant, the Native AmericanHeritage Commission, has the responsibility to provide guidance as to the ultimatedisposition of any Native American remains.Significance after Mitigation: Less than Significant.ReferencesBeardsley, R.
