See the map of theportfolio, Figure 11 for a spatial representation of the network and non-network portfolioexamples. The identified networks represent the team’s estimation of the best representative riverexamples to focus on maintaining of developing functional networks for migratory fish. The 5largest rivers in the analysis area, the Connecticut, Merrimack, Saco, Thames, and Housatonicwere all chosen as important network portfolio examples, however only the lower section of theHousatonic was included due to the high level of fragmentation on the middle section of theHousatonic. Migratory target fish occurred in all of the size 3 river system types so the networkgoal was that all size 3 river systems required functional networks from larger river mouth toheadwaters for migratory.
