sites that require less investment in new TNC resources or are under less threat. TNCpreserves where a sustained commitment at current capacity is forecast are a goodexample. Partner sites are those at which we presume our conservation partners will takethe lead in implementing conservation. At a minimum, we must measure success towardsmaintaining the conservation target and be willing to provide our partners assistance ifrequired. Ownership patterns at 10-year action sites are very similar to those describedfor all portfolio sites collectively.Based on these criteria, the state teams selected 25 Tier 1 preferred matrix forestoccurrences, and 450 element occurrences as 10-year action sites. Approximately 13% ofthe element occurrence 10-year action sites (n= 131) are contained within a Tier 1preferred matrix forest occurrences. The portfolio also contains 144 element occurrencesthat were selected as TNC lead sites and another 332 partner lead sites. Map 17 shows all10-year action sites in LNE-NP.State chapters will now proceed to develop threats assessments and strategies for actionat these sites over the next few years, with the expectation of achieving positiveconservation results within 10 years. There is interest in organizing a regionalimplementation team that would consider cross-state landscape-scale projects, create anetwork of conservation sites, and evaluate threats and design strategies regionwide. Inthe interim, a meeting has been scheduled for November for state directors to beginconsidering plan implementation.3/2003 PRIOR-2
