Harry Keeble, our Hon. Sec., at theClub.Peter and Honor Grime, with daughterElaine, are leaving us for the wilds ofWales. They take with them our bestwishes and hopes for the future.D.ANOG.DUMFRIES AND DISTRICfALTHOUGH 1964 was disappointingin some respects we had some goodflying and made progress generally. Thenumber of launches at about 1,400 wasslightly less than the previous year. butthe flying time increased by about 20hours, due to the great improvemevt insolo flying and soaring time. Most of theincreased soaring time was due tj thearrival of an Olympia 460 acquired bythe former Prefect syndicate whosemachine was sold to the Club. The 460 has proved very suitable forour conditions and has regularly done 20minutes from a normal winch launchbeatingthe Skylark 2 hands down. Ourfirst Silver C cross-country was gainedby Alf Winter with a flight to CrosbyAirport, Carlisle, and there have beenseveral local flights of over an hour. Wehave gained this year six A and B's,nine C's and two Silver C legs.As a result of making a great effort toget out of the usual financial wood wehave unfortunately sustained a disastrousloss on one function. This has madefurther fund-raising essential and putpaid temporarily to some of our moreambitious ideas. It has also meant takinga realistic look at our costs and subsand if this results in more efficient runningit wirt be a good thing. We have at present a good many keenmembers from all over the south of Scotlandand Cumberlaod and are loakingforward to a very busy year.EAST MIDLANDS(Leicester)IG.J.K.N spile of our troubles, including theloss of our Club Tiger. last year wasan extremely successful. one for glidingat Rearsby.
