Make surethat you do the following before you set up I/O fencing:■Install a version of Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) that supports SCSI-3persistent reservations.■Verify that the disks you intend to use for shared data storage and forcoordinator disks support SCSI-3 PR (Persistent Reservations).See “Setting up I/O fencing” on page 97.Installing the VCS Java ConsoleYou can administer VCS using the VCS Java-based graphical user interface, JavaConsole. After VCS has been installed, install the Java Console on a Windows NT,Windows 2000 Professional system, Windows XP, or Windows 2003 system, orSolaris x64 Platform Edition system with X-Windows. The system from whichyou run the Java Console can be a system in the cluster or a remote workstation;the latter enables each system in the cluster to be administered remotely.

On a system without aconfigured printer, printing from the online JavaHelp could cause the JavaConsole to hang.For information about using the Cluster Manager and the Configuration Editorcomponents of the Java Console, see the applicable chapter in the Veritas ClusterServer User’s Guide.Installing the Java Console on Solaris x64 Platform EditionTo install Java console on Solaris x64 Platform Edition1 Create a directory for installation of the Java Console:# mkdir /tmp/install2 Insert the software disc with the VCS software into a drive connected to thesystem. The Solaris volume-management software automatically mountsthe disc as /cdrom/cdrom0. Type the command:# cd /cdrom/cdrom03 Copy the compressed package files from the software disc to the temporarydirectory:# cp -r cluster_server/pkgs/VRTScscm* /tmp/install4 If your system does not have the gunzip utility, copy it from the disc:# cp /cdrom_path/gnu/gunzip /tmp/install5 Go to the temporary directory and unzip the compressed package file:# cd /tmp/install# gunzip VRTScscm.tar.gzThe file VRTScscm.tar is now present in the temporary directory.6 Extract the compressed file from the tar file:# tar -xvf VRTScscm.tar7 Install the software:# pkgadd -d .
